Okay, that post is quite old, but I still want to preach in favor of "Pimp My Wii":

And including upgrading would be a bad idea for anyone reading this in the future. As it is now, the guide will work on any Wii that is out at the moment. If Nintendo decides to release a new update tomorrow that disables all of this.. wouldn't want people updating. Updating is a personal choice and can be left to the modder to decide.

"Pimp My Wii" does that safe-upgrading; it uses waninkoko's firmware updater as base (or has the same behavior) then applies the needed patches (You don't need to bother if you should enable/disable each patch for each IOS that will be downloaded, as the required ones are already pre-selected, but you can "customize" them. (Trucha, ES_Identify, NAND_Access and another (I don't remember which one it is) are the available patches. If you have trucha-fixed IOS(es) that should be TB-restored, Pimp My Wii will re-download then patch them.

It also have a english/french interface (chosen automatically with Wii regional/language settings).

I really think that is would made things simplier by using Pimp My Wii, but again, it's just an idea, and you are the boss.

Edit:
@ Chris_Skylock:
I'm glad that you finally got over it and succeeded in your [CIOS install]/[Wii Modding].

I did read each guide first including PIMP MY Wii and this is the simpliest guide.

Anyway, Dunno why Softchip-whatever it is is not running my back up games - only Neogamma R7. Hmmm....

Cant find any good games selling here so I have to download them. I guess Verbatim is the only DVD I need as my current ones are NOT compatible.

Off to USB mode, then

Pimp my Wii is a Homebrew made by Attila. I was talking about the homebrew.

The Pimp My Wii part was mainly for Deviyl, i'm sorry if it was not clearly stated. I just wanted to say that Pimp my wii *could* solve the [possibly upcoming] updating issue as it does the same thing as waninkoko's firmware updater. PMW is a kind of "all-in-one" homebrew and it also allows you to downgrade and restore IOS 15, as well as patching all anecessary IOS. So i'd use PmW instead of TBR in the guide. But i recommend testing it before adding it as an alternative, because i don't want to test it myself; Without a working PC, i take No Risks At All.

I mean... PMW is fully functionnal, but i didn't tested the IOS15 downgrade, so i guess a proper "official" testing must be done.

P.S. I feel stupid, now...

I'm having a problem running bannerbomb and installing hackmii. When I try to run it it sat it wont run on fake signed IOS. I did put cIOSCORP 2.0 on this Wii. Any help?

Edit: The Wii is on 4.0 and has an older version of HBC installed.

u need a non-fakesigned IOS to run the hackmii installer. Either uninstall cioscorp, or install a single non-fakesigned IOS, i recommend using IOS30 v1040 (either use dop-ios to install it, or pack the wad using nus downloader then install using wad manager). Once this IOS is installed, u should be able to run the hackmii installer

note if u plan on installing the new homebrew channel, it will probably be upside down if u have cioscorp. If this happens to u, install a non-fakesigned IOS61 (latest version, use same method as above), then reinstall homebrew via the hackmii installer and it will fix itself

Older version of this guide is an inaccurate statement. Any other guides you see are merely other versions of this guide, not older versions. =)
If you follow the guide over from the beginning you'll be fine. It'll just overwrite anything old you have on there with new stuff. Just don't do the 4.2 steps since you don't have 4.2.

Yeah, you are right. I probably followed something else. I'm sorry about that comment. Anyway, I followed the guide from the beginning and everything went fine, except for BootMii that would install as boot2 but wouldn't pop-up when I turned on the Wii. I tried to install/uninstall it several times actually, to the point I gave up when the installer crashed (some exception thing that scared me to death). I ended up installing it as IOS and used either Preloader or the HBC to access it.

By the way, I fixed my shop "issue". I used Marc's 4.2 Shop Channel Updater after all the steps in the guide. I suppose it will be safe for other people interested in it.

Last, but not least, thank you very much for the guide and the help!

I heard there is a right and a wrong way for opening the SD card to install the HBC...
What's the right way for 4.2?
What's the right way for below 4.2?

Or do you just open the SD card on all firmwares by 'Click on the Wii icon, then to Data Management, then Channels, and SD at the top.'

I semi-bricked my Wii and i backed up my NAND. I installed BootMii as an IOS. When I try to restore the NAND in BootMii it say something like BootMii is not a boot2 press A+B+X+Y to continue anyway. When you press A then B is says press any other button to exit when you go to press X it backs out. The same thing happens when I try to press them all at the same time. I can still run the HBC so is there any way to restore my NAND using BootMii without it screwing up or can I use a different app to restore the NAND.

Well...... I guess it would help if you could tell us how you semi-bricked it (What you tried to do) and the version of the apps you used. Beside that, Bootmii as IOS is *not* a viable protection, since the boot2 code execution part is not available. So, when you are unable to install it on boot2, be careful.

I do not have sufficient knowledge to help you in that case, but I'm sure there is a lot of experts down there to help you. Good luck with your beloved Wii.

next step Patching IOS36 is what i am worryed about.

I have a wii 3.4E with BootMii as boot2v4(installed as ios).

Is it safe to do the Patching IOS36 step with a 3.4?

Also i was told can't run preloader on a 3.4 will i be able to after Patching IOS36?

Sorry for the noobish questions.

Thanks.

Guys I need some help and I don't know where to post this. Getting the new super mario brothers to work is an impossible task for me apparently.

What I have:

- NTSC launch wii
- Wiikey 1 with 1.9s installed
- Latest Homebrew Channel
- Neogamma latest

Everything I've read says "boot the clean rip with neogamma and it'll work perfect!"

Well.. wrong! It doesn't work fine. It boots, sure but I still get the error before I beat 1-1. No one else is apparently getting this errror?

What can I do to fix this?

I thought maybe installing WAD Manger 1.5 and the neogammaR7.wad channel would help. But I keep getting the Installing ticket.... ERROR! (ret = -2011)

I'm hoping to have 3 friends over in an hour. Anyway to get this working? Thanks guys!

Ok, I'm about to softmod my kids Wii using this guide. Mine is already, but I kind of forgot how I did everything. So I'll be following this guide.

I have one question though. He is currently on System Menu 3.3U. Should I just keep it on that system menu for now and follow the guide? Or update to 4.2U and then follow the guide?

Thanks.

tell me, on another guide it says that if you have 4.0 or 4.1 you must install ios60-patched.wad BEFORE installing preloader... Is this true...?
The guide here makes no mention of it.

I would recommend updating first, but I don't know if this guide supports virgin 4..2 wii's

It doesn't really matter
If you install preloader before the patch, you'll need to install it again afterwards.
