I really don't want to see the 3DS hacked

Why not?
If the 3DS is hacked (at least early in it's life span) there won't be a future for the 3DS, no one would want to make games for another Nintendo handheld if it gets hacked or flashcards that early.
Yeah, companies actually steer clear of the DS because it gets pirated so often. If not, we could have had a great library of games.

OK.
So you won't disagree with a 3DS hack after a few years?
Personally I wouldn't even want to see it then.
Really it would be better to if it was hacked after the 3DS lifespan.

Nintendo will probably push a system update within 48 hours of the 3DS launch. I doubt they'll leave the platform out in the open for hackers for an extended period of time, considering how rampant hacking is on their platforms traditionally.
That update (if it really happens) will be nothing but blocking exploits/flashcarts.
Their first update will add eShop.

I, too, hope to not see the 3DS hacked this early, this would make nearly all developer to switch to the NGP >.<
They need money to make video game, duh!

Well, considering that most Nintendo updates are like that anyways, I wouldn't be surprised.

Fixed.

Most updates are "bug fixes", when they are really dealing with piracy.

I agree. I think the best kind of scenario would be for the 3DS to flourish for a few years without any hacks, and then they start coming out as the library dwindles in size. By doing so, you also open the ability for people to play import titles on the device.

Or if the 3DS requires a very difficult process to circumvent to detract children from being able to take advantage of it, like a hard mod. I would never, ever hard mod my devices, so that's a good way to detract me until the next Nintendo handheld is already on market before I risk it.

You're assuming the 3DS will be hacked before May.
I doubt it will be hacked two months after the release date.

i think u mean the guy above me
if he doesnt update, he doesnt get browser etc
if he waits until its hacked, he may never get the browser etc
if the may update is automatically programmed in, then it will update to the new fw when u pass a mcdonalds since wireless switch may only affect multiplayer but not updates
i doubt nintendo would allow u to turn off updates since thats the major anti piracy thing

I am going to be honest with people. Nintendo is going to make it hard as hell to hack the 3DS, even without the auto-update feature, they will add features like no allowing people to gain access to the shop and such as well I am willing to bet future game releases will require updating to work.
Nintendo isn't just going to sit back and let their new system get hacked that easily and personally I hope they keep tight security on their system.

Uh, no. I was talking to you. That's why I quoted you.

Why else would you have said that?

Well the way you stated it, it was kind of involuntarily implied.

I don't think she implied anything other than the 3ds needs to be updated to get the eshop and browser.

I always face-palm when I read people saying "the switch may not turn off updates" or "forced automatic updates" or "streetpass updates".
Also, this new phrase: "automatic updates is the major anti piracy thing" which isn't based on reality or facts at all.
My point: We know nothing.
All Iwata said was he wanted to have automatic updates, and that they might roll it out in the later half of 2011.
That doesn't mean they force you to update, it could just mean you will be prompted to install an update when one is available, could mean the 3ds will download new firmware automatically and lock you out of playing games until you update, it could mean locking you out of the eshop until you update, it could mean anything.

It's illegal to force an update on a consumer without first prompting them to accept or deny it.
With good reason, as an update can break a device you own.
Of course it's not illegal for your usage to be limited if you choose deny, which could be the case here.

I think i made a good decision of waiting.
It's a shame to see you hatin' on the 3DS now. What made you change your mind?
Did you go to the preview event(s)? They would surely change your mind.

Anyway, the lack of e-shop and spot pass is nothing in comparison to the other things that the 3DS ships with.
