Hi all
I just bought a psp 1000 and i would like to know whats the best "golden sun" like game on this platform .
I loved the ds game and i bought (still to arrive ) the gba version but in the meantime i would like to buy a new game for my new psp
It would be perfect if it isn't tactic ,turn based its ok , but i dont like that you have to chose how many squares you have to walk
:teach:
and it must have an awesome story !!!!!
I liked the golden sun one , but i also liked "the worlds ends with you" and something like that
Do you know any game for psp that has all this attributes ?
If you dont whats your favorite psp game and why
thank you in advance :)

there are few jrpg title on the psp:
legend of heroes series
persona 2 innocent sin/eternal punishent
persona 3
final fantasy 4
Valkyrie profile
lunar
hexyz force

but considering how good the psp is at playing ps1 game you should have a look at these:
final fantasy 6 to 9
dragon quest 7
grandia
chrono cross
legend of dragoon
vagrant story
xenogears
legend of mana
threads of fate
suikoden 2

dragon quest 7 is the only jrpg tat i cant get to work on my psp. is there a special way or program to convert the game to a eboot?
for the title that aren't available as classic, it's a 2 step process.

1. you need to convert the title (or find one that has already been converted)
I personally use red squirrel's popstationmd 3.0, but I believe there's a more recent utility.
or this:
http://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-to-converting-ps1-games-for-psp.206195/

2. use the right pops (popsloader plugin) - optional
if not used, it'll use the pops from your current firmware, which is good enough for most case
however some games have a spotty compatibility and the pops of an earlier firmware may work better, there used to be a compatibility list which would tell you what pops to use in the dax-gen days

i know how to convert the games and i have pops on my psp. the game wont load correctly, it loads to a blue screen where the new game would appear or just boots to a black screen and freezes my psp.
not to get cocky here but if you know how to do it, how comes none of them works?
if you're using a rip, make sure it's a good rip
make sure you're using a valid game code
that you are on a high enough firmware to support multi-disc pops (if you're a m33/dax loyalist)
try another conversion software
try different pops

also, I've heard that you can't load pops earlier than the lowest firmware supported by your psp (which I can't confirm as my psp was manufactured before that functionality came out)

Or, maybe you're the guy who always want to play the only game that is incompatible with emulators and stuff like that
I played a dozen of ps1 rips on my psp and they all played fine.

I'm pretty sure he's doing it correctly, its just that Dragon Warrior VII requires using a lower pops with popsloader. Since most games don't seem to need it, I wouldn't expect people to bother with it until they run into issues like that.

Installing and using poploader: http://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-to-installing-popsloader-v3-on-pro-b8-through-pro-c-cfw.301579/

No, since the entire function of popsloader is to load POPs versions earlier than the one on your psp. Unless you mean that a pops version earlier that whatever firmware comes preinstalled won't work, then that's not true. I have a 3000 9g, which I'm pretty sure is the most recent 3000 model and comes with 6.60, and I've been able to successfully use 3.52 pops to fix the 3 games I've had problems running. It does seem like there problems with pops from 3.71-6.00 with the go and some 3000s, though.

i am using a rip from my copy of DQ7 with the correct game code

I did not say that all the ps1 games that i have converted have not worked, have converted 40+ ps1 games that all played fine, it just DQ7 that does not work.
the game would ether load to a blue screen with sound or just freeze to a black screen or have text but no sound.

Have you tried to make a multi-disk eboot with ImpalerPSX
yes i have and i also made single disk eboots of the game and they still dont work.

i'll just try to find my ps2 and my ps1 memory card to play it

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
