Hacking Getting the single layer version of Brawl working

I have a monthly download limit of 12GB, and it's a an hour drive to get to a store that sells dual layer DVDs. It's not worth using two thirds of my download limit, and driving a total of two hours just to get the full Japanese version of Brawl, when I intend to get the English version next month anyway. However, I do want to play Brawl now. So it seems my best option is to get the single layer version now, and just play VS mode with that until the English version comes out.

How do I go about getting it working? I know about the 15% trick with the dual layer version. Does that also work with the single layer version? Or is there an entirely different method of getting it working?
