With nearly every company cancelling their appearances at this year's Game Developers Conference due to fears of Coronavirus, the organizers of the event had been forced to either cancel, or delay GDC 2020. A new press release shows that "after close consultation with our partners in the game development industry and community", GDC 2020 has been postponed by a few months into late summer. Whether or not this will put the Game Developers Conference before or after E3 is yet to be seen, but we'll soon learn more details about the rescheduled plans for the event in the coming weeks.

Ummmm, wouldn't producing/sourcing from MORE locations actually reduce potential issues?

If anything consolidating to just the minimal amount of locations would INCREASE potential issues.

Let's say everything became 'born in the USA' and the USA suffered from a pandemic, same problem would exist.

If the whole product was made in different locations yes.

But that's not the way it's done currently, where parts of a product can be made in several different locations. (for example packaging isn't made in the same location)
So like if one location only is closed it affects the whole chain.

That what I’m saying, MORE locations would reduce issues, not fewer. Plus there may still be some kind of buffer.

Worth noting that a lot of people (like Josh Sawyer) were already cancelling their usual annual appearances at GDC, due to it's inconvenience both monetarily and otherwise. Still, cancelling / postponing it outright is an absolute blow to the guts for developers who were planning on attending, who likely spend considerable amounts of their own money to attend. I hear itch.io is planning a fundraiser for them, though.

You would need duplicated locations at each step of the supply chain.
Sure, at the scale of a country it makes sense, but globalization of the supply chain takes its toll on the environment. It's absurd for just a few bucks saved on the final product.

You can really tell the people in this thread who get their corona virus information from reddit and Fox news.

Fake youtubers are making bank on you misinformed idiots spreading pointless fear.

Stupidity aside, large congregations of people are definitely not a great idea right now. It might not be very deadly but that doesn't make it any less of a pain in the ass to catch if something were to actually happen.
