GBAtemp Tournament Week - Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (LAN Play)

super-smash-bros-ultimate-switch-hero.jpg

It's time for users with a banned Nintendo Switch to get another bite at the apple, with our LAN play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament, with a $50 gift card up for grabs to the winner. Unfortunately, since accessing LAN play on SSBU requires a custom firmware, players with unmodified Switches can't enter this tournament. (Don't worry though, we'll be hosting a four-day tournament through Smash's regular online features from April 7th to April 10th!) The tournament will start at 2pm CDT (3pm EDT, 7pm GMT, 6am ACT, 9pm CET). If you're unsure what time that is in your timezone, please go to this website, type in "2pm CDT" and it will tell you what time that is in your area (make sure you're not connected to a VPN!). Since this tournament isn't catered specifically to competitive players, but we still want it to have that competitive feel, we'll be using a simplified version of the 2GG ruleset.
  • Stock: 3
  • Timer: 8 minutes
  • Items: Off
  • Hazard Toggle: Off
  • FS Meter: Off
  • Best two out of three matches
  • All characters are allowed
  • Stage Selection: Random
  • The following stages are in rotation: Final Destination, Battlefield, Kalos Pokémon League, Pokémon Stadium 2, Smashville
For users running Atmosphere, you'll need to go to this page, download the ldn_mitm_v1.3.3 zip folder, and move its contents to the appropriate folders on your Switch's SD card. You'll also need to download this file and put it in "SD:/modules/required."

For users running SX OS v2.5 and up, you need to go to the SX menu, head over to settings, and then make sure you've enabled online local wireless play. If you're unable to find a room, make sure your Switch wifi icon doesn't have an L on it--if it does, then that means the kip didn't load and you'll need to reboot and try again.

If you're having trouble, be sure to check this thread, with further details.

This is the server we'll be connecting to: kirbfeels.throwbackcountdown.com:11451

To break it down, what you'll need to do if you're a first-timer to LAN-play:
1. Grab the improved version of WinPcap, called Npcap.
2. Grab Switch LAN Play from GitHub. Here.
3. On your Switch, set your IP to 10.13.?.? where "?" represents any range between 10.13.0.1 and 10.13.255.254
4. Now, set your subnet to 255.255.0.0 and your gateway to 10.13.37.1
5. Next, you'll set your primary DNS as 163.172.141.219 and secondary as 207.246.121.77
6. You're almost there! Get the server address in the paragraph above and copy and paste it into the lanplay program on your computer. It should connect.
7. Now, connect to the internet on your Switch, and go to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
8. Go to the Wireless Play mode (it's one of the options on the dashboard on the right side of the screen).
9. Join the room!

Please make sure you have the latest version of the game (7.0.0).

If this is your first time using LAN play on the Nintendo Switch, we ask you to make sure you can connect to the server before the tournament starts so you have time to troubleshoot any potential issues. Give yourself about 20 minutes to work through the process and avoid any potential delays in getting the tournament started.

If you're interested in participating, please post in the thread below. Please also post the name of the account on your Switch if it differs from your GBAtemp name to help us keep track of everyone. Prior to the tournament beginning, we'll fill everyone's name into a bracket and post it so people know who they're facing off against. Since Ultimate's Wireless Play only allows users to connect to each other in private rooms, participants will have to host their own matches and arrange the rulesets themselves, so posting your Switch's account name will help make it easier for you to identify the proper room to enter if you're not hosting, or for you to know who to accept and who to reject from your room if you are. We encourage anybody who's hosting a match to pre-make a ruleset in accordance with the rules laid out above in order to expedite the process.

Good luck to all the entrants!

If we just have to post our end results screen we can go on different servers

Yes, that'll probably be easier and lighten the load on the server. I'm writing up the bracket right now, and users will have to connect to each other, so they can also agree on a server to connect to then.

Make sure to have plugged your pc to router by cable, use winpcap instead of npcap, use latest ldn mitm 1.33 and last update of smash 7.0

Alright, I've got a bracket formed, barring any more late entries or the server blowing up. I've done my best to group people together geographically (based on the flag on their GBAtemp account) to help minimize lag but that wasn't always easy with so many participants. I've tagged all the users below and put their Switch account name in brackets if it differs from their GBAtemp name. Round 1 will be:

@NicholasCullihal (simplyphat) vs. @Rashield (Raul), the winner of whom will fight against @denisscole (BGBoss)

@FoxMcloud5655 (Fox) vs. @Draxzelex, the winner of whom will fight against @ragtagsquid (squid)

@_Mizuto_ (SD_Vinesh) vs. @Filippilny (filip), the winner of whom will fight against @Beerus

@Keylogger (BitPlayer7) vs. @Aphromite (Aphro), the winner of whom will fight against @nightweb

Since users will need to connect to each other in private rooms, it will lighten the load on the server and reduce lag if we use different servers. Instead of the one mentioned in the OP, coordinate with your opponent to select a server. Any of the servers on this page should work. I'm not participating so I'll do my best to convey information and help everyone stay in touch with each other.

Nearly everyone is in the room I have open now, so it seems like we're all connected to LAN play alright. Hopefully by using different servers we can make the matches a little more playable.

(I did close the room everyone was just in, sorry.)

If you're having communication errors,we should try moving to different servers. There's no need for us all to be on it right now, and we're only overloading it as is. Any of the servers here should be viable and will have less traffic on them than everyone here right now.
