Hardware GBA game cart no longer saves

One of my GBA carts no longer retains new save files, but the old save is still intact
is there a way to fix this problem? or extract my save?

edit *. oops found the other thread, BUT still no answer to whether a DIY job is possible - replacing the battery

I'm not sure which other thread you found, there's other threads about cartridge batteries here and here. The second one mentions that only some games have a battery in them, so it depends which game you're talking about.

To extract the save you need a program called Rein (I don't know anything about it, just the name so you'll have to do a search for more info).

reinmoon extracts the saves from retail DS carts and puts them onto a slot 2 (CHECK THE WIKI, nobody does..)

probably gonna go get a 1616 or 1620 calculator battery tomorrow and do some soldering.


lets say there's still a save on the cart, will it disappear when the battery is removed and replaced?
