Hacking Gamecube to Classic Controller Converter 2 questions

Err... isn't it just plain inefficient to make a hardware adapter for something that can be done in Devolution itself?
What I was talking about was using something to remap for Wii games as well but, yeah, having a mapping passable to the devolution loader would be ideal at least for Devolution itself.
EDIT : ... especially if it's able to support things like nunchuck+wiimote controls in which case no one is going to agree on what mapping is best.

This, a bajillion times this. It's my impression that hardly anyone actually owns 4 classic controllers - I sure don't.

The problem is that the Mayflash adapter identifies itself as an official CC, therefore Devolution has no way of knowing that it isn't one. tueidj's prerogative is to support the OEM hardware first and foremost, which is why he chose the mapping that he did. At the very least, we've found an alternate ID that doesn't break official support (i.e. everything I've tried so far has ID'ed it as a CC and worked just fine, even though it's a different ID), which could allow Devolution to do the mapping entirely in software, since it would know that it was a GC adapter, rather than an official CC. I've been busy with school, so I haven't been able to look into it any more than that.

But alas, that still prevents direct letter to letter mapping on a standard classic controller...

The thing is, in games like Mario Party where it specifically says things on screen like "Press Y" "Press B", not having the letter match up can make things VERY confusing; in particular, the mini-game Fish n' Drips comes to mind. This would be particularly bad for people that have a history with a SNES pad or the DS, which is supposedly way more people than those that played the GameCube.

Anyway, I've essentially hi-jacked this thread into Devolution controller talk regardless of GameCube adapter support. So that things may remain on-topic, do you think you could make a post in the official Devolution - Public Release thread regarding the info about classic controller support, and then we can continue the discussion about plain without-adapter Classic Controller support there?

Take that up with tueidj, not me.
We can't (we as in those of us following the Devolution thread). He hasn't logged into GBATemp since November, and the only other time since then he said ANYTHING about Devolution at all is in a single post on a PSO forum a month ago.

So basically, you're the first person to confirm that he's still working on Devolution at ALL, let alone actually conversing with him.

Another interesting reason why I want to add the software-controlled functionality to my adapter is that tueidj mentioned the possibility of adding rumble support. It may not work all that great from the 3v supplied by the Wiimote, and may drain the batteries more quickly, but it's at least something he's looking into.

You can usually catch him on IRC at #wiidev or #rawksd

But I'm not a developer - heck I can't really code at all. I can remove a CPU IHS and can get programs to run on XP and not crash on mearly 256MB RAM without a pagefile, but give me a line of code and I'll be lost.

You don't need to be a developer to go on IRC. It's just a chat room. Also, tueidj may not have logged in here for a long time, but he does read these threads, since he was asking me about my adapters not the other way around, so he must have read about them here.

I know I don't have to be a developer to log into IRC, but not being a dev in a dev-focused channel is like having an assembly-line worker ask a CEO to change something in his company's product.

Meh, not really. If anything, just go to #rawksd. It's pretty dead as of late, but tueidj's still around most of the time. And anyway, IRC does have PM functionality.

I broke out all of the non-1:1 mappings to their own header so I don't have to hunt through the source code to change them. I am currently unable to wrap my head around the complexities of git (I prefer the simplicity of svn), but if you're at all interested, here they are (the header reflects my current setup and you might not like it, but this is just how I have it set up):

wra.cpp
ButtonMappings.h

So much for that idea, I was idling for hours and hours on end so that if/when tueidj responds I would be there to see his reply. However, sometime when I was AFK I came back and had this:
[19:39] =-= YOU (RinTosaka) have been booted from #rawksd by CS2LogBot (Banned: join flood)
[19:39] [INFO] You are banned from this channel.

Oh my connection was being glitchy alright, heck a service guy is even coming to look at it on Saturday.

EDIT: I'll try PMing tueidj via #wiidev, but I'll also tell him that due to connection instability I cannot idle for risk of being banned

The bans are automated, due to rapidly dis/re-connecting. I think they're 1 hour long. If your connection is that bad, set your client to not auto-reconnect, and then manually reconnect once the connection has stabilized.

That defeats the purpose if idling though, that is, staying in the channel so that I can see anything that may be said whether I'm AFK or not.

No, you'd still idle until your connection crapped out, then you would be disconnected until you notice and manually reconnect, rather than getting banned and being disconnected until you manage to get unbanned... Also, tueidj's in Australia, so you might factor that into your timing on when you try to get ahold of him...
