Hi, I'm seriously considering playing the Wii on my PC monitor, which is widescreen of course. The problem is, I DON'T want the Gamecube games to be stretched, they look HIDEOUS, what the f*ck was Nintendo thinking? I prefer black borders on the sides of the screen than everything looking so awful...to the point...my monitor doesn't have any options to fix this, so I was wondering if anyone knows how I can center the game while playing it on widescreen instead of it stretching out? or some widescreen hack if there is any...any help is appreciated.

Only like 10% supported 16:9, I don't think there is a hack or something like that...

I'm not talking about widescreen support here...I KNOW the GC games don't support it but a few, everyone does. What I'm saying is, if there's a hack to make it look like this http://www.sonicretr...c-Adventure.jpg THAT'S what I want, not for it to magically support widescreen when it was never programmed, I want the image to be centered, got it now? You didn't understand my post, and you're already out to defend Nintendo and barking at me. Let's not get offtopic though and let me get some straight answers on this.

I'm not out to defend Nintendo, you blamed them in your first post. I'm just pointing out that it is a limitation for your monitor. You are more likely to find some software for your monitor that will adjust the screen size.

Nintendo didn't "do" anything. The games were originally written to occupy all the screen space because at the time, the screens were 4:3. The console is still outputting exactly the same signal. You're the one who's fucking things up by playing it on a 16:9 monitor when it wasn't designed for that, just like if you hooked up a VCR and started bitching about all your VHS tapes being recorded incorrectly.

Yes, I was blaming them for not being able to center the image while on wide screen mode, guess it was a pretty hard task for the all mighty Nintendo. Not surprising as it seems they rush things before release....for instance the 3DS internet browser not supporting Flash or Html5 is a kick in the balls for anyone considering the Wii could support them. As for software to install on the monitor...I don't think you can install anything at all on a monitor, if anything the PC is the one that could take said software assuming it exists...but I was planning to buy a VGA cable adapter for this because I find it more complicated to connect the Wii to the PC so it can capture the incoming video and audio, I wouldn't do all that to get a centered image...but if anyone's done this and had success I'm more than willing to listen, though I heard you need a powerful PC, and that's where I'm screwed.

That's why they could've designed the Wii so you could choose to either stretch the image on a widescreen, or center it, that's what I'm getting at here, but I get a feeling people aren't listening to me or don't understand what I'm saying...>_>

The wii does not "stretch" the picture. It's the same signal that the gamecube used to put out. Your monitor is responsible for stretching it out to the wrong aspect ratio. They couldn't give the option for pillarboxing it because that code is statically included in every game.

So...I just messed around with my Xbox and set it to a 4:3 resolution (1024 x 768), and it turns out...my monitor DOES have an option for centering, but it only works when it detects 4:3 signals...that's why I couldn't enable it before....anyway it seems my problem's been solved, I just have one last question, does the gamecube use 640 x 480 instead of 1024 x 768?

If your graphics card driver has a control panel then maybe you can use some setting to letterbox the 4:3 signal.

Also make sure the Wii settings are configured to output 4:3 and not 16:9.

I'm not gonna connect it to the computer...I'm making a direct VGA connection to the LCD, and don't worry about that, I already know how to fix the problem and center the images using a 4:3 setting on my widescreen that can only be activated if it detects said signal type...I already tested it out with my Xbox, the Gamecube mode outputs a 640 x 480 image as far as I know, so it won't look as nice, still, my TV's ruined at the moment, so I have no choice.

As you found out yourself, it's the monitor itself that decides if a 4:3 image gets stretched or not.
If I understand you right, when the wii is set to widescreen, the image is stretched and there is no way to show the image centered on the screen instead of stretched.

A lot of pc capture devices (like those usb sticks used to digitize your old VHS tapes) don't work very well with a game console.
The problem is a delay between the image created by the console and the image seen on the screen.
For a video, this doesn't matter, you just see things one or more seconds later.
Your game console expects you to react fast upon some images. If those images are delayed, you become a bad player.

I'm using no capture device for this, I'm using a VGA cable for 360, and a VGA switch to switch between the PC and Xbox, I'm planning to buy a 3rd VGA cable for the Wii since I want to use my PC screen for everything now...and I needed to go into this 4:3 stuff and sort everything out before I made the purchase, I care a lot since I love many of my old GC games, and wouldn't like them to be stretched...I don't play Wii games lately anyway, but at least now I know how to switch, it shall be widescreen for wii and 4:3 settings for GC mode.

Afaik there is no way to distinguich between 4:3 and 16:9 signals coming from the wii.
Maybe look for a vga cable that can be switched between modes.

I have my Wii through my PC monitor via VGA and I've never been able to get Gamecube games to look anything other than utter crap (some Wii games too). Getting an upscaler for the Wii might help though?

I just recently picked up a n64 from a garage sell, and looking to mod it and add a HDMI port to it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/3548173115...044&customid=4f3038da73b61afddf7e5e90f4153856

I'd like to find a power strip and HDMI selector built in 1 unit, so I can select which game system I want, and will switch to that hdmi, and power on that plug/power supply only, so don't have all game systems powered all the time, but can't find anything like. May just have to make something myself.

@SylverReZ, windows 10 and some linux distro like linux mint

@Xdqwerty, Yeah, I'd recommend having another OS just in-case you want to play games.

    @SylverReZ, cuz of lag?

@Xdqwerty, No. Whenever you use the internet on Windows, Microsoft collects personal data and installs bloatware that isn't necessarily needed, such as Edge.

@Xdqwerty yes, when you are installing Windows on the first steps you are asked for your current location, you MUST to select «international» so no bloatware is installed, because the bloatware is location based. if this night I have some time I will setup a VM and take screenshots.
