It is to be announced as of today with great sadness, that U.K video game specialist retailer Game Group plc has recently gone into administration.

It has also been announced that, a total of 277 stores across the U.K & Ireland have ceased trading, resulting in 2,104 job losses.

Could someone please kindly delete the other thread, as my mobile was playing up and it accidentally posted it twice.
It's not your mobile, it happens on Safari/Firefox/Chrome also at the moment..

Sad to see them go. Not really that big a customer, but I could have been if they had any stores in my country..

ps. Now hit the online stores with bargains! I want a few games and I've been waiting for them to go on sale :P

2 stores in Southampton closed ? Hmmm, big surprise - seeing as there's 3 Game stores and 1 gamestation all within spitting distance of each other. It's always seemed a bit daft, even when they were doing well.

I'm sorry for all the people that have lost their jobs though - big shame :(

Pretty sure that Game and Game Station are two different chains. *ninja'd*
they are both owned by GAME Group plc.
Interesting! In the area where I lived for some time both were very competitive againts eachother. Wool over the customer's eyes?

No wool pulling, Game bought out Gamestation when they went through an expansion phase, but, due to bad management they didn’t close stores that were near to each other and ended up competing with themselves. Where I live they have two Game stores and a Game Station within a few minutes’ walk of each other.

One of the shops is right next to a CEX (Second hand hardware, phones, games and films) and their second hand games are usually half the price of those in Game, and they both buy them for roughly the same from the customers. Game and Gamestation also usually sell games at the RRP, not many other shops do now.

To be honest they were really badly managed as a company, the quote in the news from one of the people in charge was they were victims of how bad the games industry was doing at the moment, that was right next to a news article on how the games industry is currently doing better than the film industry, sounds like someone who doesn’t even know their own business.

This was already posted. But I guess this time it's official.

EDIT: Re-opened. Decided to keep this open as it has some new bits on the story. But next time double-check the USN section throughly :P

Got eye insurance? Some do custom laser cutting engraving same day in office
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I do but the optometrist I got my glasses at last year was expensive as fuck even WITH my insurance, so I'm gonna order on Zenni and see if my insurance will reimburse it. And if they won't, then, oh well, still will be cheaper anyway
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
$90 for the safety glasses on Zenni, vs my daily wear glasses were >$200 after insurance
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
Haven't been to the eye doc in like 3 years but was pretty surprised they cut the glass in office had the in like an hour ready
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
That's pretty sweet, I had to wait like a week or so for mine to be ready
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Lookin at buying another pair of regular glasses too. And maybe prescription sunglasses
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
Yeah most just ship off to a lab could always call around to see if new ones have in office glass cutters

  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
My eyes aren't that bad, I need mine for driving but ever since I got my latest pair I wear them all the time when I'm home now, I never used to before
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
    I'm near sighted though
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
I feel like docs just say you're this and that for the insurance claims half the time
    +1
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
But even my computer monitors, that are like 3ft away when I'm leaning back in my chair, so much easier to see now with my glasses than without
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Doc was cool though, he measured my old glasses and I wanted to try different contacts than I had had previously and he's like "hmmm I bet you're this strength and that strength" and damn dude was dead on the money
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
    lmao that clip

Know a guy who did laser surgery for like 2g but argued you'd never need glasses again
