Don’t know why people keep spitting out the same BS.
Just to clarify again! I have tested both the M3-SD &
the SC-Mini & the SC-Mini gets 30 Min more of bat
life over the M3, I like the M3 but lets stick to the facts.

Calm yourself, I was making no claims, just regurgitating what I'veread.

Alright, so a M3 Lite is in the making, interesting... makes the decision even harder... G6 Lite, EZ4 Lite or M3 Lite...

I can't say I would be interested in a flash cart w/o removable media for DS games at this point. Part of that I suppose is because I already own two of them, but w/ the size of your average DS game, it is an unpleasant thing to burn one to a NAND based cart and excrutiating to a NOR based cart. Also, mini/microSD's are alot smaller should you feel the need to carry around more then one.

That said, a NOR cart for GBA games is the way to go, IMO.

Personally, I think that 512MB is a good number.  True that you will have to transfer files more often, but at least you can carry more than 3 games at a time.

Yeah but then you can't play some games (like Resident Evil DS)

1MB=8Mb .. or .. 1 Mega Byte=8 Mega bits

RE at 1Gb (Giga bit) = 128 MB (Mega Bytes) . so it will fit into 512MB four times

Ok so when I buy a EZ Flash 2 and they say 1GB, it's completely different than when a MicroSD says it's 1GB?

Now if you want some more confusion..

A typical SD Card or most any other storage media, HDD or CF card ETC. will advertise its size in gigabytes but these are actually units of 1,000,000,000 Bytes. A computer will see this as less than the 1,073,741,824 Bytes expected as 1 Gigabyte.
You also lose some of the storage space due to formatting the storage device.

See this Wikipedia page for more info.

This makes my Sandisk mini-SD closer to 1.9 GB than the advertised 2 GB.

Don't even start on Gibibytes / Mebibytes

haha thanks. I figured that with the EZ Flash 2 for example (or the G6) when they say 1GB, they don't mean like hard drive space. For example, Final Fantasy 3 for SNES was a 24mbit game, but if you put the game on a PC, it was only like 3mb.

So am I right in saying if I bought 1 gig Sandisk card, I'd be able to fit multiple instances of Resident Evil for DS, even though it's a 1GB game?

Yeas you can have heaps of them on there. Gotta get your terms correct though. Lower case b = bit, Upper case B = Byte.
Resident evil is a 1 Gb or Gigabit game. That is equal to 128 MB or MegaBytes.
You could fit that 7 times on a 1 GB, GigaByte card with some space left over.
If it were a true 1 GB GigaByte of space on the card it would have fit 8 times exactly (ignoring any formatting overhead).

So the 1 Gb or Gigabit flash card has only enough space for 1 copy of the game.

Hope that helps!

I'm more interested in the apparently longer battery life from one that doesn't read from a card, I'm willing to settle for 512MB if it's noticeably longer. I wonder how the life on EZ4L will compare, it's annoying waiting for them to be released.

I'll probably get this due to the fact that I have absolutely no need for micro SD since it's probably only used for cellphone storage and I don't even plan on upgrading my current cellphone model for quite awhile..

Actually one question, this might change my mind but like with the miniSD having an adapter making it into a regular SD.. Can the same be said for the microSD?

My phone uses micro SD (actually it's called transflash, same thing) and yeah it came with a normal sized SD adapter. One important thing to find out is how they compare with mini/regular SD in speed though.

This is exactly why I'm waiting on buying a backup device at this point.

There's so many things coming out and I'm really excited to see the variation.

What I want:

1) FULL compatibility (as much as possible) with FULL saves
2) At least 1GB
3) Price under $80 (without removable media)
4) GBA support for the 'top' games w/ saves
5) Does not stick out & has WHITE color (to match)

Things I could care less about
1) Box
2) Manual (you all will help with that

)
3) Name
4) Insert witty comment here

I'm the same, just add battery life and speed as points.

Reading up on micro SD a bit, seems SanDisk were its original creators with the transflash and the SD association later chose to use it so it was redubbed micro SD. On the M3 wiki SanDisk's normal and micro SD cards have mostly bad ratings on Castlevania's intro test, hopefully this won't carry over to the micro ones. Because of that I'm leaning toward G6, but EZ4L's price on Winsunx isn't too bad so we'll see.

edit: whoops called Winsunx "Winsux"

this cartridge is in pre-order status on winsunx, 43.6 USD for the "micro SD" version
so good news for people who wanted more then the 4Gb announced

Interesting, I'll have to wait for someone to test some cards with EZ4L and the Castlevania intro (hint hint gbatemp review) before I go and buy one though, one that came with my phone is only 64MB.

On a side note it's nice to see so many Aussies on this board.

Man I'll be honest, if the only benefit is better battery life, you'd be nuts to pay $120 for a 1GBit card, when for $70 plus a microSD you can get a 1 gig card for the same price.

Can I ask current G6 owners:

1, What's the GBA compatibility like?

2, How long does it take to copy a 256Mbit GBA game from NAND to PSRam?

3, Does the copy of GBA games from NAND to PSRam have to take place every time you switch on the machine, or is it only when you switch from one GBA game to another? (In other words, is the PSRam non-volatile)?

that vid test might be a good way to judge performace of one cart's setup vs. another of the same tpye (i.e. on e M3 vs. another M3, or one EZ4 vs. another EZ4), but it may not be a fair way to judge M3 vs. EZ4. THe EZ4 seems to have some difficulty playing the Castlevania vid without skipping and slowdowns, while an M3 can play it quite well with the right media card that's properly formatted for maximum cluster size. On the other hand, I haven't heard anyone complain about how the EZ4 plays NSMB directly from the miniSD, but I've heard the M3 has trouble with this (i.e. fastboot). NSMB plays fine on the M3 in normal mode - copied to PSram, but to play it without problems in fastboot you need a media card that works well enough to play the Castlevania vid at 4.5 or better. The EZ4 can't do a 4.5 with any miniSD card so far (it's a software issue with both carts), but plays NSMB ok. For a fair comparison of the M3 vs. EZ4, you need to consider the bigger picture.
