Hi all,

Newbie here. My wii U is not hacked and I plan to do it later, therefore I need to keep it below 5.5.2. I have a couple of disks that require firmware update to play. I wonder what firmware versions they have to. I can hold on playing them if need to.
1) zelda BOTW
2) splatoon
3) super smash bros

Is this enough information? I can provide more but I don't know what.

Thank you in advance!

Thank you. My understanding is 5.5.2 can be hacked but not easy or not reliable?
It's almost as easy as long as you install Haxchi. It's just that you might need to try the browser exploit a few times, but it's quite reliable now.

Yes. Right now I like to keep the options open though. Not sure I have a lot of time so I guess I may have to use the browser exploit for quite sometime before I actually do the haxchi, or not doing it at all if I am comfortable with the browser exploit.

Tried to search list of games with system update versions to no avail. You are right the botw should have 5.5.1. I guess it it safe to assume no disk contains 5.5.2?

If you plan on installing Haxchi or CBHC, then you can go ahead and update to 5.5.2. There's no reason not to.

If you do not want to purchase a DS VC game for Haxchi/CBHC, then you should keep your Wii U on 5.5.1 so you can consistently use the browser exploit instead.

At least I've never heard of a disc having 5.5.2

So I just went ahead and installed super smash bros, since this one has 2014 copyright label printed so I thought, this must be one of the older versions. NOT SO! It actually installed 5.5.1 for me. This is surprising but no damage is done, phew. The BOTW has 2017 copyright, the splatoon has 2015 copyright. I guess in theory they can put any versions of firmware on it.

Well, now at least if any other disks asking for update, they are 5.5.2.

But then again, maybe there is no 5.5.2 disks, as Uumas pointed out.

Just Dance 2018 was the last Wii U retail game (so far), i am curious to know what firmware that disc has on it.

THEELEMENTKH: I bought it on January, I'm on 5.5.1 and I can play it perfectly without having to update to 5.5.2, so it requires (and has the update files for) 5.5.1

Thanks for confirming! : )

might be able to check by decrypting the game. iirc, the update is in the sys folder on the disc. you could always check it if that folder is present. it should be code, content, meta, and sys iirc. the sys folder is usually omitted for obvious reasons. :D

I am new so I don't understand. Do you mean by using a PC to check the content?

you can, yes. I'm not sure if it's different between retail and digital though. it would be interesting to see if it still matters if the update folder is present.

and by update, I mean the update folder on the wii u internal memory. I'm wondering if the update from the disc is transferred there first or if it just uses the disc as the storage medium.

OK. I will keep in mind. Maybe find some time to check this. Since now it is already 5.5.1 I will just let it go until next update is requested.
