In the meantime you can use sys-netcheat (https://github.com/jakibaki/sys-netcheat)

Can you please tell me how to do it? I've never used sys-netcheat and I will only use it in this game :v I have Reinx if it's important. Thanks so much!!! ;3

Is there a cheat to unlock weak mode from the very beginning? Or does anyone have a savefile with a leveled up party so I can beat Trial Mode and unlock weak mode as fast as possible? I already beat this game twice on the ps4 and I don't wanna have to play through normal mode again on the switch :/

Nope no cheats. Play the game normally, get the best weapons and armor and beat trial mode. There are cheats for inf health, so it made the trials bit easier.

Since I already destroyed this game on the PS4, I didn't feel the need to replay it legit on the Switch.

Here is my save file shortly after you get Fran and Balthier. Just got to the Nalbina Dungeons.

I have 99 of every item in the game. Including the game breaking weapon/item Seitengrat and Dark Energy.

Still lots to do in terms of the License Board, Sky Pirate's Den, etc.

Just extract from the zip and place the file in your Checkpoint folder under:

/switch/Checkpoint/saves/0x0100EB100AB42000 FINAL FANTASY XII THE ZODIAC AGE/ffxii

Then restore in Checkpoint.

Enjoy for those who like this sort of thing. :ha:

How did you edit your save or cheat like that?

Editing the save is pretty easy. The game uses zlib to compress the data. The compressed data starts at 0x0c. The game also uses Crc32 calculated from offset 0x14 to 0x1020c (0x101f8 in size) on the decompressed data. Crc32 is stored at 0x0c and 0x1020c.

How did you go about deflating the save file? Custom tool?

I plan on messing around with the Switch/PC FF12 save file when I have some time this weekend but was curious if there was already an "off-the-shelf" deflator or something you were using. Otherwise it looks like my best bet is to just code something up in trusty ol' VS.

If all goes well with my testing of PC-to-Switch save file conversion I plan to release a super simple save file converter.

I wrote a custom program using zlib.net. turtle-insect has a save editor with its source available for an example.

Thanks for the response guys. Going through turtle-insect's sauce now. I see where he's uncompressed the Switch save files. Will definitely come in handy.

Do any of you know whether the PC save file is also compressed with zlib? Doesn't appear to be at first glance.

That would be lovely!

Though I need it the other way around. From the Switch to PC.

That, or a guaranteed steal all code like the PC version has.

At the moment it appears unlikely I'll be able to get a PC-to-Switch, or vice-versa, save file conversion.

Here are a couple of the reasons:

  • PC save files appear to be encrypted and/or compressed with a currently unknown algorithm.
  • The Switch version of FF12 Zodiac Age has some changes/enhancements from the PC version which may make the save file structures between the two incompatible.
I'll keep playing around with the PC save-file, whenever I have time, to see if I can figure out how to unpack it. That would certainly be a great starting point.

Has anyone been able to get this save to work? I have been reading on here that it gets corrupted once transferred with Checkpoint? Do I need to change the save file type to ".bin"? Thoughts and help appreciated :)

the save editor by turtle for some reason ruined my game. i only added 1 seitengrat, that's all. after that, i can no longer receive any accessory item. i opened my latest save file and found out that my accessory tab have 12 blank entries before myda current list of accessories. and after the list i have items with no name but with amount of item. weird.. had to reload my backup save.

RNG manipulation never worked for me.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
