The only emulator I thought was enjoyable on the PS2 was the Genesis one. I am sure other's where good too but I felt like the Genesis one was closest to being playable.

Ironically I feel like the Dreamcast was much better for emulation than the PS2. That being said almost any Android box for a TV would be insanely better for emulation. (Even those cheap 20 dollar ones can do PSX emulation.)

For NES emulation on the PS2 you might try the PS1 NES emulator, if you can boot PS1 stuff on your PS2.

I haven't tried it myself but it might be a more "mature" emulator and maybe better results?

Maybe try 0.90i version, it's often considered as the most stable version out there.

I don't see why even the PS1 couldn't handle a NES emulator, even if it was a PC port. Shouldn't even be an issue for PS2 or PS3 to handle NES emulation.

Or use RetroPie with a Raspberry Pi zero.
Real console or not, it is one off the best way to play nes games.
If you want still a console to emulate nes games, then a Wii is a good and cheap option.

This^

I buy cheap Wiis from Goodwill from $15 to $30, and fill them with emulators and USB Loading .wbfs games.

i used to go out to the recycling center every couple weeks and look at the crts and other electronics people would drop off. Usually screens were broken or severely scratched from being tossed around. Did find a good one here and there, but never anything like a 1080i widescreen crt.
