External Storage Via USB-C

Anyone here having difficulty using external storage on the Steam Deck. I've been trying to get the deck to cooperate but things are so bad I had to resort to buying a micro SD to full size SD ribbon cable reader. Right now my main issues are

1) I can't figure out how to format external storage in desktop mode without having to use the terminal.

2) after I set a external storage location to be active in Desktop Steam, the moment you unplug and try to use the same storage later, Steam just forgets all about it.

I really want to be enjoying my Steam Deck but it seems like my use case will have to wait a tad bit longer for proper support

Remember that the desktop environment is KDE Plasma (Linux), so Googling with that framing should get you some answers.

Also, lucky SOB to have one already.
