So they actually dug up millions of copies of ET cartridges? That's...interesting. And to a degree, it's also interesting that New York times articles are to be considered an urban legend. ;)

It would have been hilarious if someone was actually trying to bury chemical waste in there...

Laborer: chief! We've got a problem!
Foreman: what is it? Hurry up...we've got all these barrels to bury. And it's best not to let it leak into the atmosphere too much.
Laborer: we've hit a vein of pure ET cartridges! The ground is FILLED with it! If we add our barrels to it, we can't cover up the ground again to safe levels.
Foreman: so...in other words...we have to take either the cartridges or the radioactive waste with us to another location?
Laborer: afraid so. :(
Foreman: damn...
Foreman: ...
Foreman: fuck...that's actually quite a dilemma.

:P

It wasn't just E.T. cartridges, it was Atari's left-over merchandise in general that they had to dispose of, they just never disclosed the location of the burial site. Of course E.T. cartridges were supposedly the majority of the stuff there since the game flopped big time, but hey! :P

I thought they would find millions of buried cartridges like the urban legend said so, but it seems I was wrong about it...
They're still digging, who knows how much more they will find before they get bored run out of funds reach the bottom.

I don't think it's as big of a news story as people think. Yet. Finding a hundred (the latest article I read gave that number) various Atari cartridges really could have been anything. Once they can say they've found over 1,000, then it will get interesting.

There's probably some if not many Xbox 360s with RRoD. /jk

Shame they decided to go do this 'cause James Rolfe was planning this for his film.

That rag? Wouldn't use it to line a bird cage.

Mainly because I don't have a bird.

Atari was well known for saving up as much as possible with hardware. I don't believe in the urban legend. I believe more in the theory that nowadays everyone thinks to be a great comedian or an illuminati researcher and put that cartridge themselves.
