But online cheating is unfair with legit players.
Let's be honest, though: Nintendo games/consoles have been a cheater's playground since forever. Even in Pokemon red/blue you could not compete with the other people in tournaments unless you cheated. This isn't likely to change any time soon, either.

Cheating with glitches isn't cheating C:

If the retailer is stupid enough to not have safeguards against that type of thing, you can do that with a lot of products. But why keep wasting $200 (even if you get it back later) when you could just use private headers instead?

That's actually super easy to do. Just make sure to swap all the parts with the new serial number onto the defective unit and the retailer is none the wiser. Also pay in cash so it cannot be traced back to a single person.

So it seems like .cia files are the simplest way to go for now but no news on if those will get detected too.

I've been playing online with them no prob though so...

Well, I did a Pokemon give away that lasted about 3-4 hours, using your own game rip seems to be pretty safe at the moment

if anyone who got 'banned' has another 3ds, that is on 4.x, and the 3ds that got banned is also on 4.x - maybe i can help 'unban' you, i want to try taking the console id from your unbanned console and putting it on your banned one :) (the consoles will need to be the same region, i'm pretty sure)
PM me if you want!

i have a simple app already made that can do this (if my simple idea works)

I do not understand Nintendo.
This idiotic idea of banning hardware is going to cost them money and goodwill. This is clearly a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing.

Dear Nintendo,
You can not issue a hardware ban on NEW 3DS' when you stupidly removed the serial numbers from those packages.
Expect many 'happy' returns from banned consoles owners and 'unhappy' returns from people who unwittingly purchased those returned consoles.

I don't want to start an argument, but that's not how retail works, Nintendo gets their money from the stores like GameStop and Target, so before it even reaches the customer's hands, they have their money. When people return consoles, Nintendo doesn't lose money, the retail store does. In return, the store gains 1 (potentially banned) used console that they can try to sell again.

If people are going to buy a used console, Nintendo makes no profit off of it, they want people to buy new consoles so that they can sell more to retail stores to replenish stock. People will always buy new consoles, nothing can change that. If word gets out that used consoles have a chance of being banned, then people will be leaning toward buying a new console anyway and that means more money for Nintendo.

They know what they're doing. There's no reason to get upset about their business practices just because they don't want their products to be pirated.

I can see ebay full of 4.5 3DS consoles (and 9.x to)
- Fully working Homebrew enabled 3DS (XL) on 4.5FW - GW Compatible
or
- Fully working 9.2 3DS (XL) not much used in top condition! - GW Compatible

and no word on banned!

I have no need for it, but i think it's good to double check your ebay purchase from now on :D

if i had to make an educated guess id have to agree with you.

Hmm your right, seems very strange since sky3ds has been on the scene these bans have popped up, maybe its actually really aimed at sky3ds users but GW users that are using the same ID/headers are getting caught up in the ban wave as well. I suggest we need something to tell GW users not to use the same ID as sky3ds users on there roms. Sky3ds cards could just maybe the culprit!

sure, i doubt it is specific to sky3ds, if you are using gw or mt too i would expect if you are not using a private header that you are at risk also :)

well it's still unclear
but how about ninti can detected some unplayable game at our game history
for example i have us 3ds xl and i played some Japaneses region game
or when i played it online (i've tried paling MH4G online)
this can be a proof that i'm using gateway since 3ds is region lock

so shamzie did you ever play a game with different region than your 3ds region?
