Damn...........so much for wanting hard concrete evidence that Nintendo is banning because of public/private headers and installed cia's with public headers.....etc...etc..
Yep, driving me crazy. I dunno what's safe and what's not. YourHero's explanation is leading me to believe that private headers should be safe but cias are so much more convenient... I just wanna be sure they're safe. Hopefully we get more info before the 13th when it's time for some MM3D and MH4U

Hey,
I am going to get a New Nintendo 3DS at the end of this week and I already got a sky3ds.
So the best way to avoid a ban is staying offline while playing with SKY3DS, right?
When I am not playing any Games with SKY, I can do anything online I want?

Sorry, I never had a 3DS before.^^

Or somehow dump your own header into the template for sky3ds. I really don't think anyone using private headers will be banned at this point.

I know I keep reiterating the same thought (and it may be annoying to some) but what's your opinion (obvious we don't have facts) on using CIA files?

I have a feeling CIA will be safe for now. CIA will eventually be banned if Nintendo is smart and runs a cross check to see if you own the title on your eshop account. Not saying they will or if they do how long before they do. Nintendo is hard behind on a lot honestly. Even accounts are not 100% based yet for purchases. You still have to call Nintendo even if you format the system and log into another 3DS with your NNID.

I think it is safe to say if you are not online with a game there is not much Nintendo can do. I wouldn't go as far as saying "I can do anything online I want", there are other cops other than the Nintendo Cops.

So pretty much .3dz with private headers or bust.

Okay, here it is:

If you want to be safe and not get banned, this is what you do:

Turn your 3DS off. Do not turn on again. This will 100% keep you safe and from getting banned.

If you want to be safe, but want to play 3DS games:

Do NOT play Online games. On GW, just run .3ds carts.

If you want to be safe and play online games:

Insert a private header into your games. Use CIA games (currently believed to be safe).

If you want to not be safe and play online games:

Use public headers.

If you want to be safe but don't have a private header?:

Don't be cheap, buy an online game so you can use it's header.*

*Check out the various threads on the topic, might not be a one header fits all games.

You mean a game that has online features, right?
Rather dumb question, but is there a way to dump a game downloaded from EmuNAND and get its header? is there a possibility? or do they not use headers at all?

They do not.

Actually, missing something very obvious. Do we have a record on what particular games were involved around the bans?

What game was last played online prior to ban, and what game was tried to play online which notified the user to the ban? I guess for some it could have been the Friends List connection problem, so the first question might be more important.

Sorry, I don't know much about the headers stuff, going to have to learn it over the next few days.

So is it possible to play .cia games online without having a NNID? Because if that's the case it could be difficult for Nintendo to see whether or not you bought a .cia game legitimately or not.

How can you not have a NNID? Think that is mandatory for the 3DS to boot up to the homescreen.

yes, it's perfectly possible.

You only need a NNID to use Miiverse and buy on the eshop (and to download demos).

yes, it's perfectly possible.
Perfectly possible to play them without a NNID? Or for them to find out if you bought it? Or both?

I'm not entirely sure where I'm going with this actually... I'm trying to figure out any way that Nintendo can reliably ban you for using .cia files.

lol dude, from the way you've been going about cia files today, might just be safer to suck it up and make the private header 3dz files. Yes, it's less convenient, but your paranoia will be mostly quelled until someone else comes in and says "'ey, I got banned for using cia files!" Better safe than sorry, at least for now.

Haha, gotcha. That's probably the best course. Or even better, just play online roms as .3dz and offline ones as .cia. Saves space for sure. And I'm pretty sure there's a way to transfer the data over using savedatafiler even with card1 games (I saw instructions on how earlier). That way it's still more convenient. I wonder if games with streetpass features like ALBW and FE:A count as online games.
