Hmmm well I supposed it is worth a short...the part doesn't cost much at all and youtube will show you how easy it can be to take it apart.

I wasn't thinking about purchasing one(unless it works) but more like some people have access to more than one 3ds console.(and the skills necessary to swap it out)

Im curious if the ban is banning of Friend code or 3ds Mac address.

Reformatting the emunand would change friend code right
(But doesn't change mac )

Any of the banned people tried?
Well it also depends on whether or not they had sysNAND and emuNAND unlinked before being banned.

What are the downsides of unlinking NANDs, again? I'm thinking I'd better unlinked mine ASAP...

Can you re-link them later?

You can re-link them by formatting your emunand through gateway again. For more info look at section #4 of this guide here. The downsides as quoted from this post:
1. Your friend code will change on whichever NAND you format
2. You will not be able to access your old Streetpass Mii Plaza data
when you're running on whichever NAND you format
3. You will not be able to access eshop game save data when you're
running on whichever NAND you format
4. You will be able to use the eshop account linked with the console on EmuNAND
regardless of which NAND you format.

The only downside I can think of is that any official themes you install on EmuNAND will be unavailable on Sys if your unlinked. I installed a pack of 75 themes via CIA on Emu and was surprised that they also showed up on Sys for the short time I had the 2 linked.
You're better off unlinking though.

I've unlinked mine by formatting my 3ds on sysnand (fw 4.5),
And Made a nand dump before hand.

I'm fairly convinced relinking for me,
will be as easy as injecting that nand into sysnand.

Note that it is a sysnand dumdump backed up by gateway.
It's not the one from emunand.
I know that emunand -> sysnand = fancy paperweight

I'm still curious about .3DS roms. Everyone who was banned used .3dz with public headers, but if I using BigBlueMenu, Devil Survivor 2, Cooking Mama 4 as .3ds can I caught ban(If I remember correctly they dont have header too)? Other games I bought or using cia.

.3ds cannot go online and must be named .3dz, so you should be fine.

How come people say you get asked to go online when you format your system without an sd card in to seperate the nands? I never got asked to... Just eject the SD, boot up the 3ds and format the system.

I've had some user saying he could connect online with Sky 3ds + a game file in .3ds instead, not sure if true.

I just did it in Omega Ruby to test my custom header, and it worked just fine. Didn't even think to change it to .3dz so I guess it saved me a headache. Maybe it's got something to do with the Sky3DS utility. They did want to make it as plug-and-play as possible.

Cool so I guess it's true! I'm kind of a newbie in 3DS hacking but do you think that a.3ds file use the same public headers as a .3dz one? I mean if you don't use a custom header.

Sorry to say but you guys have got it all wrong. No matter what Header you inject using the Gateway ROM Patcher or via Hex Editing. The Sky3DS software will overwrite it with the one present in the template file.

3DZ is not some Standard file type. It's just used by Gateway to differentiate between Online enabled and non enabled ROM's because Gateway uses simple drag and drop to write ROM's to the SD Card.

P.S - Please do not consider yourself safe from ban if you've injected a private header to the ROM.

According to the template file, the file format doesn't make a difference as long as it fits the SHA1 checksum. The header in the template is assigned to the corresponding game.

Which is why you edit the template file with your own headers.

I see, but say, isn't there a way to edit the template file and replace it with your own custom header in that case?
