Gaming eeePC HD is dying?

Some of you may remember that a few months ago (I think) I made a thread telling you guys that when I watched anime on the eeePC, the audio would keep going but the video/subs would lag behind. I haven't used my eeePC in a few weeks, and I just started using it again yesterday. The problem still persists, and it has been happening a lot more frequently. I have to skip back a few seconds several times per minute for the video to catch up with the audio.

Another problem that happened yesterday is that when I tried to turn the eeePC off, it made a strange clicking noise and then rebooted (didn't turn off) and when it booted back up, there was an "error" screen telling me that the bios could not recognize the hard drive. I tried turning it on again this morning and it worked fine, but I noticed that some files in my HD were missing...

This is all leading me to believe that the HD on my eeePC may be dying. What should I do? I bought it from Amazon about 2 or 3 months ago IIRC, so will they replace it? If not, how can I fix this? Because I think this is the reason why the video is lagging as well.

Amazon should handle that. Just call them.

If they won't handle that: Open up that plate on the bottom and you'll see the HDD. Pull it out and buy another 2,5" HDD (9 mm height) and just plug it in. Easier than stealing a lollipop from a baby

Is this a disc based drive or solid state?

If disc based yes, it is probably dieing.
If solid state maybe, but those things are god awful slow.

Try a BIOS update there should be instructions on ASUS's website.

Try a different operating system like Linux. windows may be corrupted. It tends to do that alot

Even lowmidrange SSDs are faster.

Oh yeah, as for the video problem, are you watching high definition anime, or h264 anime? That could be why it isn't able to catch up. I'd download and install CoreAVC if you want to play 720p h264 on your eee...

The anime is apparently h264, dunno what that means. But after messing around with settings and stuff for a while, i think the lag problem is caused by the program, not the HD dying. If the HD was dying, then the error message would pop up all the time. It only popped up that one time though.

Also, I was messing around with the settings in MPC... I switched the subtitles from ASS English to SRT English and after that the lag was only like half a second behind. I will try downloading that CoreAVC program, but it's not free, right ?

I would get a HDD one because you get more GB per euro or dollar(or whatever curreency you have)
Good SSDs are still way to expensive. Sure even low range SSDs are better in random access, but I would still go for a HDD.
+ you can swap out that HDD and build in a 2,5" SSD if they get cheaper

When I googled for it, a pirated download was on the first page... and I just used that.

Also set it to Super/High Performance, which also helps
