If you bought a DSTwo from the latest batch, you may have noticed an issue: very slow read times from the microSD card, regardless of class or brand, that made playing games a chore. The classic Dawn of Sorrow intro movie test would return slow, choppy video time and time again. This problem was reported by users here and on the Supercard forum.

Although not much is heard from the team these days, they did release EOS v1.13 that remedies the speed issues presented by the new batch of carts. A few plugin related issues still plague the new carts, such as save states not working properly in a couple of different emulators, but at the least, they have remedied the main problem.

Wow, now if only they could release the source code for EOS.
just today i fell in love with you 2 times...

i totally agree with you, if they released the source of the dstwo stuff that could bring a lot of life and new opurtunities...

did anyone noticed how they don't provice anymore ds2boot.dat file?
what was that file used for? i deleted it and it does work with no issue...

I would love for them to release the source code for EOS for Supercard DSone(i) so they could breathe some life into that too. Fuck, I would to see a EOSaio come from the community.
I do believe it was used somewhere in the boot header

I *think* that has to do with the firmware embedded in the cart.

It gets installed onto some flash on the cart itself, hence you only need it once.
can't be, it is included on previous EOS. not on the firmware update
the update file is almost 2MB
while that "boot" file was 500kb
i tought it was leftovers from update but sizes don't match... and since it comes on the EOS folder and not on the firmware..
but it can be check for update code maybe... like, dstwo reads that file, that files tells him how to check for update and how to read\install it; otherwise load the EOS, or something..

If we had the source we could tell. :-P

So... should we install this update if we have an old dstwo card, or best to leave well enough alone?
It only fixes the new batch issues, so, we won't miss anything.

Cool, thanks. I still think it's weird that the new batch is different from the old ones, but, whatevs.
I'm guessing they changed out for cheaper parts to lower manufacturing costs based on what someone said about new batch cards looking different from old cards. This may have had an effect on how the software interacted with the microSD card reader. It's just speculation, really, but since it had a software fix, I imagine it was a software issue caused by a change in hardware.

Foxchild: I'm not convinced they are. Somebody responded on another thread that they had the same problems with 1.12 on an old card. But on a new card after you have installed the 20150703 update I believe you are locked in with 1.12 or higher and cannot downgrade to 1.11

The physical build is apparently different, with the old ones having a screw in them and the new ones not.

Anyway 1.13 is out, and the slowdown problems are fixed. Maybe SC Team is less concerned with TempGBA and CATSFC since they aren't official. But, on the other hand, they may be since they link to it on their official site and the 20150703 update, for all the problems, seems to primarily have been to fix choppiness in TempGBA and CATSFC, so maybe they will still address it.

They should anyway as its based off Acekard's AKRPG code which is GPL iirc.
Implying shadowy Chinese teams who create shadowy products for potential piracy use, care about the GPL.
