DSi is clicky by design. DS Lite however is not, maybe that's more your style.
But if you think it's not behaving like when it was new, you can try dripping some IPA in there to loosen things up and move it around a bunch. If that doesn't help, you can disassemble to clean the pads and d-pad/buttons more thoroughly. You can use soapy water on the buttons. Use IPA on the rest though, avoid water.
