I know DSi flashcarts need to be pretty small (obviously, to fit in the slot-1 space), and no doubt it would increase the price of one considerably considering how physically small the RAM would have to be... but would it not be possible for a flashcart manufacturer to include 32MB of some type of RAM in the slot-1 card itself?
Don't think slot-1 is fast enough to do that.

I figured Nintendo would keep consoles VC on the Wii while handhelds VC would be on the DSi. It makes perfect sense!

And I bet a GB/GBC/GBA emulator homebrew would come out on the DSi before it would be actual NDS homebrew.

Alright i know for a fact working with Nintendo that they're making pokemon remakes and mario remakes...
And you can migrate from "Ruby" through to "crystal"...
And some of their new firm ware consist of a M3i blocker so everyone with M3i watch out! (DON'T DOWNLOAD NEW FIRM WARE!)

Why would they allow migrate from crystal when way the pokemon and stuff is stored is so different to the gba or nds ones. They would have to do alot of work to get it to be compatible.

It'd actually be pretty friggen easy to do. It's not like converting a few bytes of data for a pokemon's gonna be any harder than converting things like video.

Maybe it is easy but their was a reason you couldnt link gen 3 to the gen 2 and battle/trade.

Probably because they couldn't link between the GBA and GBC?

Hmm, I'm guessing hypervisor, Japanese mother 1 + 2 and mother 3 fans would be pissed otherwise. Those games had a huge fanbase over there. If not, oh well.

Technically it would be so easy for Nintendo to support this trading from a Virutal Console Pokémon Crystal game to one of the DS games. They just needed to release a DSiWare (which could be included in the Crystal download) that can load the data from the Crystal game and save them to the DS game, kinda like when transfering GBA Pokémon to the DS games.

However, it's nIntendo, they don't do such great, easy things like that ...

This is bullshit and REALLY OLD STUFF...

Quasi-confirmed
Virtual Console Coming to Nintendo DSi
By Mark Wilson, 8:30 AM on Tue Mar 24 2009, 7,532 views

This was just a stupid rumor, it was never really confirmed.

Guys think about it. The reason we needed the vast amount of ram was because the read speed from the slot-1 was slower than the read speed of the older consoles. When the game wants to load graphics/sounds/scripts it read them directly from the cartridge, and using a very small amount of ram for things like variables and what not. Now the DSi has onboard memory. Whats not to say that the read speed of this onboard memory is fast enough for the gba games to be read from at full speed like it was in the cartridges, then it would require very little RAM to make them run.

They possibly could... and if the DS's slot-2 were capable of reading GB/GBC game paks, they even could've allowed the DS games to migrate gameboy and gameboy color Pokemon, reglardless of whether the GB/C and GBA games could link or not. However, the Pokemon you would get through migrating wouldn't really be the same... Generation 3 introduced a completely new (and more complex) system for a Pokemon's stats, and included things like nature, etc; and this was carried through to Generation 4. To send a Generation 1 or 2 Pokemon to one of the DS games, all that additional data would need to be generated for the migrated Pokemon, similar to how a wild Pokemon's stats are randomly generated upon encountering them. For that reason, the only things about the Pokemon you'd end up with on the DS game would be the OT name, ID#, nickname and (most likely, assuming the migrate feature included code to detect and accomodate for) shininess.

Well, you forgot the most important parts: The Pokémon itself, the level and the attacks. But otherwise you're right, I didn't think of that. But wasn't it a similar situation when trading between Generation 1 and 2? I'm not sure about that, but there was this special machine you had to use ...

This argument again *sigh*
No-one knows what nintendo will do so please stop talking about it

personally i think they will release the games for download on the dsiware store like they do with the wii it makes sense if you think about it, they removed the gba slot so that we would all buy the gba/gb games again for a higher price than you would pay for the real thing on ebay.
Besides who cares if it's only a rumour...we can still dream cant we?

i heard about this "rumor" earlier this year too. but even if it is false, The DSi is capable of running Eye Toy like games with the cameras. And if you think it's powerful enough to do that but not play GBA games, it's just silly.

Playing with cameras and emulating a system are two entirely unrelated things.
yes, if the system is a freakin GBA
