Well...I was taking random pictures in my room when I came across my Wii's IR detector... I noticed that on my dsi 's camera see's right thru the black lens that covers the IR LED 's.

If anyone can tell me why this is it would be greatly appreciated.

Most cameras pick that up,I don't know why. But I seen the same thing, and its funny because my censor bar is also on my cable box

Any camera will pick that up. Its just something the camera lenz sees that the human eye does not. You can see this in a lot of electronics.

Thats how the the wiimote is tracked. The wiimote itself sees those lights.

Thanks for the Reply's everone

. I was wondering this same thing... Is it possible to use something else besides your wii mote to control your wii ?

Most digital cameras can pick up infra-red signals. Try it with a TV remote.

You're saying I can play the Wii with my DirecTV remote?

No, if I'm not mistaken, he meant that if you take a picture of a tv remote that has one of those black ends you could see behind it.

Actually.... the WiiMote IS a digital camera..... (you can check this in your system menu where you can calibrate your WiiMote - you wil see 2 dots, 1 for each IR-array).

For sensorbar alternatives you could use ANY 2 (IR) lightsources, e.g.: 2 maglites, 2 candles, or 2 seperate arrays of (IR)-leds.

And no, you could not use something else as a WiiMote: because the camera is hardwired via a I2C port on the controllerchip it would be hell to let a different camera even connect (provided the digital output is the same). So unless you like some lowlevel hardwarehacking and reading spec/datasheets of your camera-IC's alternative WiiMoting is not possible for you

I've used candles before, seems more precise actually.

Seems logical to me, as Leds are narrow coneshaped directional (~25 degrees / 5mm) and candles are omni directional luminescent (emits light uniformly in all directions). So if you have a large couch of friends (wide angle) a light source with wider range would do a better trick (this is also the reason why the Leds in the sensorbar are all pointing a different direction - to give a wider angle)

ive seen the candles but how dose it connect ot the wii?
Via the wiimote.
The motion sensor bar is only connected to the wii for power to shine IR light down the wiimotes sensor.
It's the wiimote that actually does everything.

tbh, it did not seem like you were being sarcastic. we cannot sense your tone on an internet forum. if you want to tell us you're being sarcastic, explicitly state it.
