Hacking DSi Broken Already (weak shoulder buttons)

Well this was going to happen regardless of how you people feel about it. Since the launch of the DSi; the production method of those gizmods will eventually become slippy which is funny because they are a slim chance they will mess up. Personally if you ever going to have a handheld; please get it in a case. Since Nintendo didn't fix the issue from the DSLite of course the same problem is going to be carry over to the DSi.

I have my ElectricBlue PHAT DS since December of 2005; many times I have abuse it by accidentally throwing it or dropping it on the floor. It still works, the hinge is becoming loose but that's why I don't bend it ALL the way. Shoulder buttons still works like nothing happened to them! Also I have to replace the DS Battery last Christmas. Yes that PHAT DS I have gotten was bought from Nintendo World.

This flaw is an issue since this is a new product and majority of new products are suppose to fix flaws from their previous brand. Which Nintendo has fail to do so.

What the hell do you all do with your shoulderbuttons?
Mine are perfectly fine. (And I do have 2 DSLs. A modded one, which isn't as stabble as the original white one, but still has no issue)

But you have my sympathy though, it hurts if you have something new and have to give it away again, if only for a short period of time just because it doesn't work the way it was intended to... ^^"

I've never dropped mine. Not sure about my son. As far as buying a warranty, I didn't buy one either. The DS Lite comes with a years limited warranty. As long as there's only wear and tear damage and it doesn't look like you dropped it, they'll fix it within a year of purchase. In the end, it doesn't matter which system you buy, most of the companies, Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, will have some kind of problems with their systems. I've never owned any of Microsofts systems but I think I've had about 5 PS2's over the years and 2 or 3 PS1's. I never had a problem with a Nintendo made machine until the DS. The only companies systems I've never had a problem with was all my Sega stuff. All the old Sega systems I have still work great, Dreamcast, Saturn, Nomad, Gamegear, Genesis, Master System. Too bad Sega just couldn't keep up.

Ahh man that blows. I thought the DSi's shoulder buttons were a real improvment, mine have been great so far.

I even got my dsi in one of those sleek protection cases for a tenner since day 1 but the button didnt stop working because of damage. what happened is this... i take a photo of my girlfriend to show her how good the camera's are... then i try take another and the button wont register unless you press it really hard. just the right shoulder button, left works perfect. No droppage, no damage, so in conclusion i think it just stopped wanting to be a button. lol.
i can still use it though as you have 3 other camera buttons. still waiting for ninty to send my post label so i can send it off though.

well i still have a ds lite too, it has never ever broken, or stopped working.
got my parcel force label to send dsi to ninty, i'll be seeing it again in approx 2 weeks.
I will update this post when i get my DSi back and let you all know how ninty dealt with it.

Lol, DSi sucked anyway.
The only selling points are the cameras, and a music format that the mojority of users have never heard of.

Yeah...no one in the world has ever heard of iTunes and the iTunes store...

My DSi right shoulder button doesn't always work! have to press really hard to take photo's.
was fine the day i got it and its gotten worse since then.

just phoned nintendo - they are sending a prepaid post label so i can send my dsi back for repairs free of charge.
takes 14 days from sending free of charge.


If this happens to anyone else and you have shop data and points you HAVE to send it back to Ninty to keep your data and points. The shop i got it from (gamestation) were happy to replace but Ninty say thats a big NO-NO unless you dont mind loosing everything you have paid for..

i am very dissapointed after only having my DSi for under 3 weeks. My DSlite still works though so got that and my Wii to keep me company till i get my new DSi.

Ye know. woulda know the DSi was sensitive. but now i know i never ever buy a DSi. I'd rather buy a PSP or a 360 as a sign of anger. in my opinion DSi is nintendo's Biggest Fail. because when you open it to fast it breaks. and after a period it seems of playing. it dies >,<

Got my DSi back yesterday - opened it up and its very dusty, looks like they had a fiddle with it a little.

MAJOR DISSAPOINTMENT!

THEY HAVE NOT FIXED IT!

they sent me it back the same condition i sent it to them!

phoned customer service to complain and THEY TOLD ME I AM WRONG and it is fixed! I explain to them that it is not fixed, the shoulder button still is dodgy, you have to press REALLLY HARD to make it work, apparently i am wrong though as they tested it for 2 and a half hours and found NOTHING WRONG WITH IT!?
They will not give me my money back or even a new DSi (mine looks brand new still no scratches) they will only "repair" mine, which means they will not repair it because there diagnostic check must be flawed and they will sent it back to me again no doubt unrepaired so thats it guys, i have had it.
I have been a loyal Nintendo fan and customer since the NES and Gameboy era and the ONE time i need help they mess me around.
I am going to gamestation today to get my money back if i can.
£150 for a console is a lot of money Ninty, especially when you wont fix it. (i hardly got to play it)
By the way people if you buy DSiWARE it is permanently locked to that system. No way of transferring it at all. EVER.
Nintendo my blood is boiling with contempt.

well, i got my DSi at opening day and its been perfectly fine so far. No complains at all. And if your shoulder button is acting up, try doing the old blowing trick. Make out with the button and BLOW BLOW BLOW. It works on the ds lite, might work on the DSi as well...

Well today I had the same problem only with my L button, and I was upset I was going to have to send in another gaming system (PSP twice and PS3 once). I tried the blowing and the banging against something rapidly. The first rapid banging, with my stylus top, freed it from not working but it needed to be pressed extremely hard to work. Blowing did nothing and banging against my desk didn't either. Then as I stumbled across this thread and was reading in horror of actually sending it in, though I'd be sending it in to the Japanese repair team which would hopefully do a better job, but I was blowing like crazy while reading through and it worked!, so I suggest doing that for a few minutes.

Hey guys, the thing is if there's been no modification to the DSi and you bought it when it was released, your manufacturer's warranty would cover the problem, as they always know there could be a problem with first batch.
