If, for whatever reason, you ever wanted to purchase the the original digital release of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, you will no longer be able to do so. Square Enix has delisted the game on both Steam and the PlayStation Store, following the release of Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition. The new version, which initially was a timed Nintendo Switch exclusive, was ported over to the new platforms on December 4th, and added much more content, including a 2D mode, battle speed multipliers, an orchestrated version of the soundtrack, and more. While this seems like a sensible choice, the original Dragon Quest XI features better textures and graphical detail, as it wasn't designed for the lower-spec'd Nintendo Switch like the Definitive Edition was.

On the left is the PC version of Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition, while the image on the right is the same area in the 2018 PC release of Dragon Quest XI.

For those bothered by the changes, there is a possibility of modders re-adding the old graphics to the PC version, or you can simply play the physical release of the original on PlayStation 4.

Notice: At the request of the publisher, DRAGON QUEST® XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age™ - Digital Edition of Light is unlisted on the Steam store and will not appear in search.

That video doesn't do a very good job at all of showing the graphical differences between the OG and S versions on PC. The changes are more significant that what is being shown/described.

No. People are not bitching just because the graphics are "lighter". There are plenty of significant changes outside of being "lighter". Have you researched this at all before commenting? Or did you just look at the two comparisons shots from the op and think to yourself the comment you posted, then posted it?

What I would consider to be inferior graphics is if the textures in Definitive Edition are lower resolution than the ones found in the original PS4/Steam version. It's understandable given that the former was developed for the Nintendo Switch first.

why the hell would you even want the original anymore? the DE is just so much better in every way it fixes a lot of flaws the original had as well as add new stuff. so what if it's switch graphics it's still worth it you'd be mad to want the old version. also the 4k version of the original on the ps4 was fucking terrible it had so many graphical flaws like when you were running through the grass because it was fake 4K

If people actually watched the video, they couldn't just port it over, Switch used different UE4 version, PC used normal UE4. People need to grow up and get over it.

Someone already posted that just 6 posts above yours, and could also be seen in my own comment directly above yours. Like literally the most recent post before you posted had the video already. I'll also say again that it doesn't do a very good job at all of graphically comparing the PC versions of OG and S. Outside of that, he does describe other differences pretty well.

As someone who has played every DQ and remake, as well as some several fan translations of the games we didn't get, this release just makes no sense.

I'd be interested if we had the original graphical quality back for PS/XB/PC, but we don't. Having played the original and knowing how amazing the DQ world looked, in this case, this downgrade matters and I will not be playing this

I got the original and I'm not planning to buy the definitive edition, I'm good with the "blueprint".

PS: I guess the same could be said about Persona 5 / Royal.

At least Atlus didn't delist the original when they released Royal...!
