Gaming Downgrading from new firmware.

I want to get Marvel vs. Capcom 2, but as far as I can tell, it's impossible because you have to unlock it. If I buy the game before hacking, then implement hacks, will it still work? And can I still play backups from the newest firmware?

There is currently no CFW for 3.56, so unless you get on PSN on 3.55 CFW you can't get the game AND play backups. You also can't downfrade from 3.56 OFW.

AFAIK, there are NO PS3 games that currently require a system to be on 3.56. If you opt for either OFW3.55 or CFW3.55 and purchase this game, it should play just fine...you just won't be able to play it online without updating to OFW3.56 first. No, there is no backup manager that works on the newest firmware.
