Misc does anyone know how to make a skin for the stock r4 kernal

you mean the rare 1st original R4 kernal? should be the same as to any R4 skin creator (i mean R4 clones are different in boot proces, but in function they all should work the same after the handshake.
then again not all R4 clones are based on R4 so it's kinda finding the right one.
but i would suggest installing woodr4, the compitablity is higher and the skin is easier modded.
