i believe it's only dying because it has no more big releases.
had it not been for pokemon b/w or okamiden, the DS would have died at the start of 2011.
i don't think the 3DS has anything to do with this though, because the 3DS is shit and it in no way killed the DS. the DS library is too great to be killed by the ports, ports of ports, remakes, and remakes of remakes that the 3DS offers.

in short, the DS is dying because of no new releases and the 3DS is no better as of now since it currently has shit games.

yeah, i was trying to say that you cant play those games on the normal DS so it means that it needs another hardware, so new hardware + new games + new games not playing on old systems + backwards compability = new gen!

Can't wait! Though there is a chance they might release it for the 3DS, even though it's still generation 5. I only say this because they've broken more than one tradition this generation, the biggest being that is coexists on the DS with generation 4, which has never happened before.

You're partially correct. G/S was originally released on GBC/SGB hybrid carts, allowing compatibility with the older GBs, limited color on the SGB, and full color on the GBC. You're right about Crystal being GBC-only, but G/S was never produced on GBC-only carts. And the GBC could be considered its own console, considering the amount of exclusive titles it had (compared to the DSi).

Oh, and that reminds me, you might as well expect Gray to be DSi-exclusive.
