Why so many? Take heed of my cautionary tale and witness one man's descent into addiction...
The CycloDS was the first flashcart I got for my DSLite, back in late 2007. I matched it a few weeks later with the 3in1, so I could catch up on some GBA gaming.
I got the M3 Bundle after trying out an iTouchDS. I just didn't like the iTouch, so I gave it to a mate's kid and upgraded to the M3 Real so I could try out Sakura.
A mate was selling TTDS carts at my college so I snagged one to try out Ysmenu, but never got around to it. One day I still might...
My bro saw my CycloDS in action one Christmas, decided he wanted to buy a flashcart, but could only afford something in the mid-range price bracket. I'd been looking for an excuse to buy an AK 2.1 (to try out AKAIO and menuDO) for a while, so we each got one through my favorite seller, Ozmodchips.*
I'd lusted after the Acekard RPG from the moment I first saw it available from bamboo gaming, but $99 was waaay too big a price to pay. Months after I'd given up any hope of finding one, I chanced upon a stock clearance sale on an Aussie auction site that had TWO RPGs on sale! I made a bid on the cheaper one and actually won it! That RPG still takes pride of place in my small collection. I owe many thanks to Yellow Wood Goblin for his continued support of my precioussss.
I skipped the DSi, so I didn't see any reason to buy any flashcarts with an i in the name...
...until the 3DS, which I bought after the first big price drop. I missed out on the ambassador games, but oh well, I also saved $100.
I would have bought a CycloDSi for the 3DS, but team Cyclops had vanished months earlier, leaving a lot of users in the lurch, so I didn't think they deserved my money.
So I did a deal with a fellow Aussie here on the 'temp and so became the proud owner of a preloved Supercard DS TWO. I currently have iMenu installed on it, and eventually plan on getting BAGPlug running in multiboot.
Most recently, a guy on a well known Aussie forum was asking about setting up the Acekard 2i. I gave him the best advice I could using my Acekard 2.1 and RPG knowledge, but I didn't feel right doing it without the actual hardware, so I had a chat to Ozmodchips and soon after, an Acekard 2i became my latest acquisition.
Flashcarts have gradually become my hobby. I like learning how to set the different brands of hardware up, I chime in on various forums to help others learn how to get the best from their 'carts and to make informed purchases... and I'm hooked on messing about with all the custom firmwares, homebrew games and apps.
Oh, and GBAtemp is directly responsible. I just hope you're all satisfied.
