All i wanted was playing my Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 Backup on my PS2 SCPH-50004 and here I am one week later testing 5 different drives and CD Manufacturers. And I havent even possessed or ever needed a CD Drive for at least 15 Years. I remember being 11 years old argueing with a friend that Memorex and Platinum were the best bang for the buck in like 2001. After that puberty hit and I got lost in countless parties, so here I am again.
So first drive im testing is TSSTCorp SSH224 which generally seems to be higher quality. I havent bought the recommend CDs yet but Ill try the different CDs that my neighbour gave me for free first.
First CDs are Sony, Verbatim and Tevion (Cheapest Discounter Product). Funny thing is Atip Info of Verbatim and Tevion are exactly to the point the same, but dont know if that is enough to indicate those being the same rebranded discs:
Sony:
Burning Tevion at Max Speed with Alcohol 120% with PS1 Preset:
Same TSST burning Sony CD-R at 16x Speed with Alcohol with PS1 Preset:
I burned another Tevion at 16x which produced similar higher C1 Error Rate similar to Sony
Now despite the relatively low C1 Error Rate they all have skipping Audio in THPS2 on the PS2, so it doesnt say much.
Also it seems that some programs may produce better outputs than others, but I need to test this further. Burning with a Sony AW-Q160S drive with this Sony CD-R produced less skipping Audio with Cdrdao than with Alcohol.
Unfortunatley I can only get some drives working with Cdrdao, the TSST and the Asus DRW-24F1ST give me "Error Writing Failed" does anyone has a solution to that Cdrdao Problem?
So with all of the drives and CD-Rs skipping, the C1 Error Rate doesnt seem to be a good indicator for a working PS game with regular CD-Rs.
So I need to test better CD-Rs with all the drives for better assessment.
