Disney's Epic Mickey is right around the corner for gamers on Nintendo Wii. As we approach release, another new gameplay trailer has been released showcasing some of the painting and combat elements, as well as a few central characters such as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and the Mad Doctor. [/p]

The game is headed by Warren Spector, creator of games such as Deus Ex and System Shock. Epic Mickey is a sort of love letter to fans of Mickey Mouse who have stuck with Disney's mascot through the years. Epic Mickey takes a dive through old and sometimes forgotten cartoons from the past, bringing back characters that few people even recall, such as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. You'll see characters from classic movies as well, such as Captain Hook and Smee. It's actually a darker game than you might expect from a Mickey Mouse game, there are a lot of surprisingly creepy moments in the game, and the world itself has an unsettling tone at times.

The really big thing about Epic Mickey that makes it stand out from the crowd though is the paint and thinner elements. As you delve through the world of wasteland (the world created for retired Disney characters), you not only hop around and beat up enemies, you can also paint or erase parts of the world as you see fit. Not only does this affect the world around you, but we have learned from a recent statement by developers that what you do in a world can alter the very progression of the game. Painting or erasing parts of the world will affect how residents of the world treat you (or if they will even appear in certain parts of a world), and it also affects whether or not you get certain quests or missions. Even how you choose to carry out the missions at hand can alter the world and characters you're in. Epic Mickey will also bring many multiple endings to the mix to top off all the world changing you can do. I would imagine this means that Epic Mickey will have a very considerable amount of replay value.

Epic Mickey will be arriving on US shelves on November 30th, just a little over a month away. Europe will be getting it a little earlier, November 25th. Keep an eye on it, hopefully it will shake up the action platformer genre a bit and really give us a fun and feature-rich game! [/p]

So it gonna be like "Disney: The WRPG"? o:
I'm not really into WRPGs but this one really sounds like one of them... and that really hypes me up for some reason o:.

I do appreciate the fact that they are only focusing on the gameplay, but they are adding cartoon gags from the original animation.

And i'm 21, i absolutely can't wait for it! Age doesn't matter a bit for this.

Of course, i am also an incredibly biased fan of classic disney cartoons too. And i love to go to Disney World as much as possible (went last month and will go again at Christmas). I couldn't care less though what age i am, i've always been sucked in by that classic Disney animation magic.

Mickey Mouse looks much better in Kingdom Hearts then here.
Disregarding that you really like Kingdom Hearts (i do too btw), i'm assuming you mean the art style. In which case, you DO realize that Epic Mickey is basing its art style off of the classic Mickey Mouse cartoons from before or around 1950, right?

In other words, this-

And not this-

This game is intended to bring out Mickey's more mischief-making personality, which he was more prone to in the old Mickey cartoons. In fact, Mickey is the one responsible for the mess that happened to Wasteland. He's less mature here, so they gave him a design that conveys that better and is more in line with Walt Disney's original depiction of him. It's on purpose.

But its the same Mickey right? I can't believe he turned out to be so mature later on, and got a keyblade. You could also see he wasn't so mature in the beginning of Kingdom hearts Birth by Sleep since he stole the wave star(or w/e the name is)

I can hardly even consider Mickey "the same" in all his years as a cartoon star. He's the same basic character, yes. But his design, personality, level of maturity, and his emotions change from cartoon to cartoon. In the classic cartoons from the early-to-mid 1900's, Mickey was a cute almost childish character. He was prone to mischief, and his act during the opening of this game is something that i'd expect him to do in an old cartoon. Heck, the scene harks back to The Sorcerer's Apprentice where Mickey tries to step into shoes that are too big for him and he ends up messing it up. I think his design here conveys that personality perfectly.

In Kingdom Hearts, Mickey is portrayed as a fairly wise king, and a powerful warrior. He's lost all his mischief-making ways of his former days. He's still a fun loving character and his ways of talking aren't any different, but he wouldn't be someone to steal a keyblade from his master and accidentally go into other worlds and mess shit up like his former incarnations. He did steal the Star Fragment in Kingdom Hearts BBS, but from what i gather, he did it not as an act of mischief or play, but as a genuine way to help people. He doesn't accidentally mess things up when using it. He also knows the consequences of his actions there if you've seen his remorse in the end (and Yen Sid rewards him by keeping him as a pupil for making the mature decision and taking responsibility for his actions).

So Mickey is VERY different, he's gone through constant changes in every appearance he's been in. You could also say that when Donald came into the picture, he sort of took over some of Mickey's traits when it comes to mischief. In a way, the introduction of Donald and Goofy seemed a way to split some of Mickey's original personality into three people. Mickey matured a good deal, became the leader. Donald became prone to tempers, mischief, and took a lot of the abuse in cartoons. And Goofy took over a lot of the slapstick comedy and dorky playful nature.

And yeah, i guess i know way too much about Mickey and company for my age, but i grew up with these old cartoons. I've watched most of them through the ages, and i've really seen how his character has evolved through the years.

Stop right there.

Kingdom Hearts is a totally different storyline.
This is Mickeys original 'storyline', if you would call it that.

What Mickey has done in Kingdom Hearts doesn't add on to the 'original storyline'

maybe there are more than one mickey(s) just like there are more than one links (character not a connection between entities) for the LoZ series
so we have two truly epic games this year which i believe deserve to be called epic due to their uniqueness either in the gameplay or character intro

With all the comparison to KH, I'd just like to point out that they already stuck zany Disney characters such as Goofy, Pete, Donald, the nephew tirplets, and scrooge to name a few (and even black and white cartoon era Mickey) into a more dark themed game.

Except for one thing: they are the same exact character, whereas Zelda 1 Link AoL link LttP link OoT link (etc) and Skyward Sword link are completely septate entities (unless the story specifically states they are the EXACT same such as Oot-MM and WW-tPH).

This isnt KH. It has nothing to do with KH. I love KH but this ISNT the same. Anywho.... I know these graphics that they are showing can be better. Just look at games like SMG2 and compare the graphics. Why dont developers put more effort into the graphics on wii games when they can look so good!?

Well I personally can't wait either..... was a huge fan of Castle Of Illusion on the Megadrive, then loved Magical Quest on the SNES to bits, and Mickey Mania was also great (the vid shows a [2D?] level in black & white very similar to level 1 of Mickey Mania - me likey!) Roll on the release date! (and yes I prefer the 'darker' animation of older Disney as displayed here too)

Game tm Magazine had a pre-launch look at the game and said it was visually very good, great art styles and all packed full of references to Disney canon, but it falls down with the controls and there is little decision making in the choices you have to make to move through the game. On the whole the review was very positive. I have read Game since issue 1 and find their (p)reviews quite fair and balanced.
