Disney's Epic Mickey is right around the corner for gamers on Nintendo Wii. As we approach release, another new gameplay trailer has been released showcasing some of the painting and combat elements, as well as a few central characters such as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and the Mad Doctor. [/p]
The game is headed by Warren Spector, creator of games such as Deus Ex and System Shock. Epic Mickey is a sort of love letter to fans of Mickey Mouse who have stuck with Disney's mascot through the years. Epic Mickey takes a dive through old and sometimes forgotten cartoons from the past, bringing back characters that few people even recall, such as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. You'll see characters from classic movies as well, such as Captain Hook and Smee. It's actually a darker game than you might expect from a Mickey Mouse game, there are a lot of surprisingly creepy moments in the game, and the world itself has an unsettling tone at times.
The really big thing about Epic Mickey that makes it stand out from the crowd though is the paint and thinner elements. As you delve through the world of wasteland (the world created for retired Disney characters), you not only hop around and beat up enemies, you can also paint or erase parts of the world as you see fit. Not only does this affect the world around you, but we have learned from a recent statement by developers that what you do in a world can alter the very progression of the game. Painting or erasing parts of the world will affect how residents of the world treat you (or if they will even appear in certain parts of a world), and it also affects whether or not you get certain quests or missions. Even how you choose to carry out the missions at hand can alter the world and characters you're in. Epic Mickey will also bring many multiple endings to the mix to top off all the world changing you can do. I would imagine this means that Epic Mickey will have a very considerable amount of replay value.
Epic Mickey will be arriving on US shelves on November 30th, just a little over a month away. Europe will be getting it a little earlier, November 25th. Keep an eye on it, hopefully it will shake up the action platformer genre a bit and really give us a fun and feature-rich game! [/p]
