(Keep in mind I'm not using Dios Mios Lite but I am using Dios Mios)

Anyways, Dios Mios works flawlessly for me. Every game I've thrown at it works. Hard drive has 32kb clusters and is FAT32 and all that. My setup is perfect. Now, to launch retail Gamecube games (through the disk channel) the Wii must go through the Dios Mios splash screen. I noticed earlier with a game of mine that launching the channel without my hard drive plugged in gave me a black screen, whereas when my hard drive was plugged in, the DM screen came up, and the game loaded fine. Do I have to keep my hard drive plugged in? It seems unnecessary but I do understand if I have to. It isn't a big deal but am curious nonetheless. I'm sure if I had Dios Mios Lite this wouldn't happen since it uses the SD rather than USB and my SD card is always plugged into my Wii, but I have way too many games to switch over to Lite and am fine but am just curious as mentioned

Yes, you need to have the HDD plugged to play a game disc with DIOS MIOS.
I suppose it's the same with DML, you need to have an SD card inserted but most users do so they never noticed.

DM(L) starts by mounting the require device before launching the game, if it can't mount the First FAT32 partition, it doesn't launch the game.

For some reason when I try installing Dios Mios Lite 2.10 I get "error -1029" but if I try to install Dios Mios 2.10 it works fine, I also tried Dios Mios 2.9 and worked fine but Dios Mios 2.5 also give me the same error message, I wanted to test and see if I can get Mega Man X Command Mission to work because I still get that game crashing a lot I can never get past the fight with Alpha due to having three long battles in a row and it always crashes before I beat them, that and they're REALLY difficult battles.

Been following the thread for a while, but never found a conclusive statement about this, has anyone used successfully an 64gb SD card for Dios Mios?, I've been using a 32gb SanDisk card since r58 (maybe even before that) and it works flawlessly with Dios Mios, but lately I've been pondering about getting an 64gb since i loathe having to change cards to access all my games.

So, are there any 64+ gb users around, how was your experience using it?, would you recommend any card in particular?

My current card

The card i feel most inclined to buy

Why not use Dios Mios (USB) instead and run the games through an external hard drive?

You probably have problem with the cIOS you are using in the wad manager.
-1029 means that you don't have NAND access, you are probably using an old wad manager with a cIOS which is not base 36 or 38.

either :
- update the manager, use one which doesn't require cIOS (one with AHBPROT disabled for example)
or
- use a cIOS with base 36 (cIOS 236) or base 38 (cIOS rev17)

Uh that makes sense, yeah I was using a Wad Manager that uses cIOS 249 as bases, which is the one I usually use, I do have alternate ones just in case and I have MMM as well, thanks Cyan.

For various reasons, the main one being that I don't have an external hard drive dedicated to my Wii, and reading this thread and summing my experience i figured that SD cards are more reliable, another mayor thing for me is the ability to just load a bunch of games to the SD and forget about it and be able to take my Wii anywhere without much to care about.

You got me there, SD card compatibility is indeed a lot better, but the difference isn't as big as you may seem to think, it's almost identical and the only issues are related to minor details like sleep mode and non-defragmenter sectors, plus of course like you said the bigger size (and some hard drives require a power adapter) which may make it harder to carry it around, and if you're using the USB version of Dios Miso you'll always have to plug it in order to run GC games even if from a disc, same goes for the SD btw.

In any case if the SD is good enough for you then that's fine, but keep in mind using an external HDD has a lot of benefits too, especially being able to run Wii games right off the hard drive, saving the laser as well as your time to look for discs, running emulators, using emunand to have unlimited wiiware and virtual console games and run them off the external hard drive as well as save data, use it as a media player to run movies and music files... etc.

I'm trying to figure out if my USB drive is just incompatible with DIOS MIOS or if something else is going on.

I used to use a 320GB External HDD which was working fine for GC games. I decided to buy a new 1TB HDD WD My Passport drive, which is USB powered.

I partitioned the HDD as FAT32, 32KB cluster size and have it set as the primary partition. I've only tested WiiFlow so far, but whenever I try starting a game I get the DIOS MIOS splash screen and then it's a toss up as to what happens. Sometimes the game will boot and will work for a few minutes, then goes to a black screen. Other times the game just freezes.

I tested the HDD with Wii games and they seem to work fine (played Zelda for 15 minutes without any issues).

So, is this drive just incompatible with DIOS MIOS? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

sicbud it seems to me you forgot to disable sleep, I use the very same brand only 500GB (I bought a 1TB a while ago, might upgrade to it once I get the chance) and it works fine, I can confirm that WD My Passport drives are great with Dios Mios (not good if you have a PS3 though).

Thanks for your response. How do I go about disabling sleep?

I have a somewhat unique problem, I think.
DIOS MIOS works. Sometimes. I want it to work all the time.
I use Wiiflow and problems such as a black screen, APPLOADER, or a reboot can all occur without any changes to anything. Or sometimes the thing will just work, so I think my 32kb cluster formatted USB drive isn't the problem, nor the .isos.
Wiiflow is version 4.1.3 I believe and DIOS MIOS is 2.10, though sometimes I experiment with 2.2 and 2.6.
Here's a SYSCHECK, though I believe the problem may lie in the lack of USB 2.0 on the 249 and 250 IOSes. If so, could someone redirect me to a fix?
