Hey guys

I'm suddenly having issues with DBI when using MTP mode and trying to backup my games to pc. It was working fine for a few days now all the sudden when I try to drag n drop a game to pc it INSTANTLY transfers ? So knowing a 8gb game could not have transferred in less than 2 seconds I looked at the file that I tried to copy over to pc and the NSP file is less than 1mb for some reason...

I tried different versions of DBI to see if it was an issue with using an out of date version of the application but nothing seems to work. As a matter of fact, on the newest version of DBI I was totally unable to get the (Installed Games) directory to even show up. Even after deleting the config file like some recommended due to a corrupt config file i was still unable to get the (Installed Games) directory to show.

As a last ditch effort to continue backing up my games i loaded up tinfoil and the games are showing up fine in tinfoil plus allowing me to drag n drop them to pc. So for now I am able to backup games just not in DBI still.

Any help would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks guys !

DBI is abandoned and discontinued. Forget about it. Use ither tools.
That is sad to hear

I too was not aware of this

I will look into ither tools though, I is it similar to DBI?

I am not able to locate ither tools

Does anyone have a link ?

Or did duckbill007 mean to say "Other tools" ? 🤦

Duckbill was the original creator, but he stopped working on it, so another person has keep it going since(-snip-) : https://github.com/rashevskyv/dbi/releases
There are many other installers out there, I still use this one even: https://github.com/Huntereb/Awoo-Installer
Here is another also: https://github.com/XorTroll/Goldleaf

@BigOnYa
DBI is a closed source software, unfortunately. :(

That GitHub repo was the main public distribution place of the program, Mr. Rashevsky did a super great job to popularize it and documented well but it isn't fork, just the mirror..

@impeeza
I wouldn't be so sad, actually. :)
  • First of all the project isn't forgotten in hell, but just frozen.
  • Secondly, all the main core mechanics of the program works good for now and will work well in the future.
  • Last but not least, DBI is allowed to read prod.keys file externally (like ./keys.dat, ./keys.txt, ./keys.ini, ./prod.keys) without recompilation, so I guess it will work anytime with newer FWs (18-19-20-21, etc).
Hope the author will still support it, even at the minimal pace though.

I didn't know these, DBI reads that files if are on the same folder of NRO? or also uses from SDMC:/switch folder?

What is the use on DBI for the keys?

Installing new games, dumping them on ext. storage, opening romfs, reading NCAs info etc. etc. Prod.keys and title.keys are the essential part of the whole system.

Yea, It reads them from SDMC:/switch/prod.keys quite well.

Dumb of me, OFCOURSE, DBI decrypt and encrypt everything!

By the way something I always wonder is how DBI is able to "guess" (very exactly) the console serial even if you have it clean using INCOGNITO. that make me think what that clean is futile because if DBI can tell you your correct serial big N can also.

    @The Real Jdbye, I thought about that and I have blank DVD's and Blurays but honestly after like 90 songs I just listen to it a couple of hundred times toss it out and burn something else or have like 2-3 CD's. Florida here the heat in the car tends to ruin the CD's after like a few months even commercial pressed ones don't last too long.
