Dark Souls Remastered Delayed on Switch to Summer 2018

The Dark Souls: Remastered Edition was slated to release on May 25th for all current platforms, however now it appears the Switch version is now delayed according to a Tweet from the official Dark Souls Twitter. The PS4/Xbox One/PC version is still slated for May 25th, however the Switch version, along with the Solaire amiibo, has been delayed to "Summer 2018", with no reason provided. The network test will also be delayed to a time "closer to release", according to the Twitter account.

This comes at a bit of a surprise, as just last week the game was given a playable demo at PAX East 2018, along with various gameplay footage showing the game running quite well on the handheld. Whether this is because of performance issues in late game, or some other problem specifically with the Switch version is unknown at this time.

As someone who has preordered the game for the Switch specifically for it's portability aspect, I must say I'm rather disappointed. I would've loved to play the game along with everyone else during it's launch period, but now it looks like I'm either going to have to wait, or swap my preorder to another version of the game.

Has anyone else preordered the Switch version of Dark Souls? If so, how do you feel about this delay?

i bet its becuase of cartrige production and the amiibo one.
I don't see why they would delay the digital version if that were to be the case.

The fact that they are also delaying the network test, it indicates to me that the "problem" has something to do with Nintendo's network instead.

The servers for this game are supposed to be dedicated this time around, with password locked games so random people won't join, and up to 8 players if I'm correct. I remember all developers blaming Nintendo for not having an structure that supports friend-invite, lobbies, etc...

Cool! Nice to see this posted to the front page after I mentioned it! (Not being passive aggressive, it's kind of hard to tell tone of voice using text.) I'm curious, does anyone know if gameplay footage of Blighttown was shown? I wonder if it has to do with frame-rates there or online play being an issue? I'm still getting this game though! Delayed game just makes it better

Someone did manage to run all the way to Blighttown during PAX East, and it supposedly looks all fine, however the video is shaky cell phone quality from a couple feet away so it's difficult to say for sure.

That is disappointing, to say the least. As a consumer, I'd really like to see more consistency in third party releases on the Switch, and a simultaneous release alongside other platforms. While ultimately I'm fine with waiting because portability is a huge factor for me, I'm not pleased.

So much this... We STILL don't even have Wolfenstein II yet, and it's bullshit! All three platforms need the same release date

It's a new system, as a consumer you rather want a delay for a working game than same-release dates for an unplayable buggy piece of shit.
Companies need more time than usual to make games work on new stuff, unpredictable issues will happen.

I'm sure everyone can wait some a couple more months to replay a 7 year old game.

Delayed likely to optimize it a lot more. Dont know about you, but the demo gameplay i saw on gamexplain was running below the 30 fps mark, i would say even lower, and to make it worse, people was praising it.

I think people are just feeling the Wii U thing again. So many games get released after others and then dont sell well. We dont want the momentum of the Switch to slow down due to having to wait for something you can get elsewhere. Let's hope it is worth the wait.

every post you do is to diss the switch lol, seriously i dont get how people expect a portable tablet to perform as well as a dedicated home console like ps4/xb1.. it makes no sence at all.

switch keeps selling anf switch games too, ps4 lifetime sales on japan are 6millions, switch in a year and one month sold 4 millions so by the end of this year it will outsell ps4 lifetime sales on japan easily. And if switch sells well in japan every japan dev will keep suporting it and that is what it matters, there is nothing in this world that would make ps4 like graphics portably with the price range of 300$
