Homebrew Custom Theme Thread

gdi I feel stupid for asking but uh
How do you change the lower screen image?

  1. Download the tool here (https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-theme-customization-tools.374206/)
  2. Create a new BLANK BMP image with the dimensions 512 x 256 pixels for the top screen.
  3. At the coordinates (0, 0) of that new image, insert the picture you want with the dimensions of 400 x 240. This will be the top screen.
  4. Create a new BLANK BMP image with the dimensions 1024 x 256 pixels for the bottom screen.
  5. Starting at coordinates (0, 0) of that new image, insert the three different images you want to transition on the bottom screen.
  6. These three images should be each 320 x 240 pixels, and at coordinates (0, 0), (320, 0), and (640, 0) respectively.
  7. Remember that these images will not fill up all of the white-space within the container BMP images. This is supposed to happen.
  8. In the 3DS Theme Editor that you downloaded in step one, import the default theme by pressing File>Open and navigating to data/body_BZ.bin.
  9. For slide 0, press File>Import and select the BMP Image you need for the top screen.
  10. For slide 1, press File>Import and select the BMP Image you need for the bottom screen.
  11. Once you're done importing, press simulator to do a test-run of your theme thus far.
  12. If you're happy with your results, press File>Save to save your body_BZ.bin file.

And of course, ANOTHER question...
How do you add music? The CWAV import/export doesn't work, so....
jeez i ask too many questions

(EDIT)
Also, where do you put the themes on your SD card?

If you just mean plain background music (not custom sounds or something) then all you have to do is name the file BGM.bcstm and put it right next to theme. The theme itself also needs custom BGM enabled, which is simply a checkbox in the theme editor.
Speaking of which, those go in the same folder as the extdata app itself.

This my first 3DS theme I plan on making more, Its based off of Fate Zero and has background music with custom folders hope people like it :). Still working on increasing the sound of themes without going over the size limit but this will do for now. What should my next theme be based off of next?

My EarthBound theme is now complete!
RKEJQZC.png

Top screen was customized by me with resources from http://www.spriters-resource.com/
The white part of the Starman image (credit to DaShyster) on the lower screen changes to purple and orange as you scroll.

Link to theme: Click Here

EDIT: Bottom screen needed a slight cleanup (noticeable compression artifacts removed) 01-07-2015 ~7:30PM
EDIT: I'm back, lol. The Starman was shifted somehow in that last update so that's been fixed. I also took the time to really iron out how the pixels looked for the color changes on his suit. Small change there but I obsess over details. His feet are easier to see now as well. 01-08-2015 ~12:30AM

How did you make custom folders/get sound to work/loop? D: I'm having trouble getting my sound to even appear let alone loop.

Custom folders are the images 2,3,4 and 5 in the template.
for example: you can open my theme with the 3DS Theme Editor -> go to body_LZ.bin -> navigate to image 2 and click on "File" -> "Export".
then you got my folder design. You can paint your own on it.

I create my working looped sound with the BRSTM Converter C#.
Tools -> Simple WAV > BRSTM -> choose the WAV file (not to long!) -> set "Loop" = Enable and set "Loop" (on the left/bottom of the window) = checked -> Output as = "BRSTM (Wii)" and press OK to export.
Then open the BRSTM2BCSTM tool fromfroggestspirit (big thx ;) ) -> choose your BRSTM file and convert it to BCSTM and rename it to "bgm.bcstm" and put it into the same folder, where the body_LZ.bin is.

Is there a way to change the UI color without using the template colors?
Yes but no.. The chunks in between the image data handles the palettes for that.. although the format used is still pretty much unknown.. i've been trying to RE it when i have time to kill making themes and i'm updating 3dsbrew with my findings.

Here's what I've got so far on my EarthBound theme I'm making. Too tired right now to tidy it up to post, but will probably be finished and update my post by tomorrow! Let me know what you think.

Yes! I was hoping an Earthbound one would pop up. You are rockin'. :yay:

So no custom themes are allowed because they all use DLC themes as a base? Some of these custom themes still have some of the base folders and sounds.
if it's extracted data from official themes, then it shouldn't be shared.
I thought all graphics and audio were from the Theme creator program....

Yeah the base theme was some kind of mario dlc theme even the coin sound for selecting games is still there

that's really annoying.
If I follow our policy, I would have to delete all currently shared themes.
Why use the facility (easiness) to reuse copyrighted sounds and pictures and not create something yourself? :s

it will probably happen, I'll talk to other mods about this and see what we will do.
