I have the same issue here and I haven't tried to change any pictures or use themes, this is the stock 1.6 version from the OP. Attached a picture for reference.

EDIT: I should note that the bottom screen and title on the top one are not due to camera not focusing, that's actually what it looks like. If you see the "File Browser" is in focus okay.
I think you are not using the default configuration file "boot.cfg" as colors are black ?
- Could you try to copy the default configuration file to SD and try that ?
- What is the firmware version ? (sysnand/emunand? version?)

Thanks

Ah duh. I did have a modified cfg file which removed the theme info :P sorry for not checking that, I've been updating so many of my friend's 3DS that it because muscle memory at this point but this was the first time I tried out this awesome boot manager. Thanks for the response :)

Do you still have the non-working boot.cfg file ? It should still work with a bad one, i guess i'm missing some safety checks..

I'm sorry I might not have been clear on what was going on. The issue was only visual, it still booted and functioned but it was just impossible to read what was going on unless you had something highlighted. The cfg was exactly the same as the one packaged but it had the theme=... missing.

I have the same text issue though I followed a tutorial that said to replace the packaged boot.cfg with the one provided in the tutorial. Should I replace this with the packaged config? Sorry for jumping in out of nowhere I was just glad to find someone with the same situation as me.

I left the cfg that I edited because it was specific to what I wanted it to do, what I did was simply add the missing "theme" lines from the original cfg right before the final closing brackets.

Can you make it work with gateway launcher.dat instead of their .3dsx?
Code:
path = "/Launcher.dat";
offset = "0x12000";
Freezes the ctrbootmanager for me, and the .3dsx just stopped working, i get black screen and doesn't boot (doesn't work through HBL either), i'm having to launch it with browser (go.gateway-3ds.com)

Is it worth removing the highlight now? It makes an ugly bar across the screen and background image, and isn't really needed since we can just change the colour of the selected entry anyway.

Big thanks to the DEV of the program. Love the manger keep up the great work.
adding themes makes it look even more pretty. I now have a mario theme installed looks great.

it wont worth the Devs time doing that... you should try to figure out why .3dsx stopped working.
