Okay here's an update so far for you guys.

Ive been able to make my patches work in 3.4 successfully. The next order of business is the removal of the unwanted routines the menu performs, and then I can release an installer for a modified 3.4. It will also have some added basic features such as the recovery menu again, no copy flag removed, regionfree, moveable disc channel, etc....basically the first revision of cSM. I won't implement anything crazy etc etc, just some basic stuff.

But right now ive gotta tend to the girl so i'll bbl
Fors

So I guess I wasn't so stupid for asking after all...

Also Forsaekn, Weren't you going to release it along with Bootmii?

Unless, you have sercret info about Bootmii's release being imminent...

This isnt really a "true" cSM release persay, it will be essentially the 3.4 system menu with some new features. Just the barebones patched into 3.4.

you can call this the "prelude" to a real cSM, I wouldnt be doing this at all right now if it werent for nintendo throwing an update at us. This installer that i will be releasing soon is merely to allow people to update to a (safe) version of 3.4 that I modified.

Basically, a "starfalled" 3.4, with the added feature of nocopy flags removed on savegames and channels. Except technically its not starfall, because these patches are 100% mine. I'll also make the bonus features toggleable similar to starfall.

Can you please release it before bootmii? Also are you still going to release the 3.2 csm?

Yeah i was gunna release the installer as soon as I patched the "homebrew killing" functions, but I need to add the patches to the pal 3.4 as well so it'll take me an extra day on top of that.

If this goes as well as it has been, i'll be starting cSM from 3.4, so we''ll see.
NOTE: an actual cSM release will not take place until bootmii is out, this installer is the "prelude" to tie everyone over, and only really contains some basic features that most are already used to.

Um ok then thanks for answering my question sucks we have to wait for bootmii to be released but what can we fo.

Well, It won't really "suck" cause bootmii will be a breakthrough, not only for Wii hackers but for hackers everywhere. If What I interpreted is correct, the Bootmii mod/hack/homebrew would be completely undeletable without your consent, by nintendo. Which means you'd permanently mod your wii, until Nintendo goes through some drastic measures (which'd take forever). It basically turns the Wii into a Whole other system.

anyways, Its understandable why you want to wait for bootmii, and I don't mean to nag, but aren't there ways you can test bricks and what not without actually bricking people's wiis?.

I didn't mean it sucks like that i meant it in they way that man it stink we have to wait for it to be released before we get cSM.

As far as I understand the implementation of BootMii there are no 'drastic measures' that can possibly stop BootMii from working. I think BootMii starts as soon as you turn the Wii on and can't be circumvented...although I could be wrong.

Anyway, just wanted to say well done to Fors and thanks for all the hard work you've done so far...very much appreciated mate

I keep on thinking about getting back into programming but had a look at doing stuff for the PSP and it was all too low level for my liking lol.

BootMii resides in the ELF-loader part of boot2, which is more or less the absolute first piece of rewritable code that gets run on the Wii when booting.

With regards to the tampering protection, I assume they have some sort of dynamic patching of IOS (or whatever) in place which prevents the normal routines for reflashing boot2 from working after BootMii is loaded. I.e. you could only reflash boot2, and thus reinstall or remove BootMii, if you disable the anti-reflash-patches from within BootMii. This is just my conceptual deduction on how it probably will work; someone please add if knowing better.

The reason why Nintendo hasn't a similar protection in place from scratch is that they have to be able to reflash boot2 without having the customer doing anything at all.

I think the convenience of this is the "selling point" imho.

Looking around these forums can be confusing to most as to what cIOS goes with which loader and does it matter if they have a chip and there on 3.?E/U/J etc etc.

You can feel the potential of this is gonna be massive, can't wait

Hi Fors

Been following this thread with interest. This is exactly what i am looking for. I must say great work indeed. I am more than happy to wait for it so that you can perfect it but you could release to a few testers that are proven on this forum like the testers with wiigators beta ( i am not one btw but would be interested lol ) as the install from what you say seems pretty straightforward that way you could get some feedback from users on other systems before public release.

Again i bow down to your greatness on this keep up the good work it is appreciated but a huge number of us.

Thanks

Thanks so much Fors.

I just installed Starfall, and I really like the semi-permanent region free, recovery mode, and update blocking features. And if 3.4 really improves reading from DVD, this could be a good thing to have.

Good work on implementing these patches with your own code!

One thing I am unclear about, and maybe someone can answer this, If I install a patched 3.4 like this, but I am at 3.2U, do I first install 3.3U and 3.3v2 (Oct. 23) (patched versions of course)?? Seems like I would have to...

nah you can go direct to 3.4, provided you use my installer. you would have to also install IOS50, and the updated Mii channel to get the "full" update, and my installer does it all so no worries.

Im having trouble patching out the TPhack block...I've patched where it checks the integrity of the zelda save file in two places in the system menu, and now it no longer deletes it if its already installed, but you still can't copy it from your sd card. Kinda sucks for people who don't already have TP hack installed, or may accidently lose theirs and currently have no way of putting it back.

Im hoping I can figure out why its still blocked from being copied, but i just spent the last 4 or 5 hours trying to figure it out to no avail. ./sigh. hackmii says TPhack is dead now, but im determined to unblock it. atleast im halfway to doing that

Everything else is looking good tho

will your installer need internet connection?

yes, because I can't distribute it in WAD form (illegal). IF i added in the sd support like cios installer, it would get mildly confusing for newbs because they'd have to download the right system menu version / region from nus manually, and its all in the same folder (different extensions).

so this will have the "rescue-menu" option exactly like StarFall? otherwise it will be hard to give up StarFall.
