I want to connect my old computer's hard drive to my Wii U. The plan is to use this cable to give it a usb connection and use this cable to split the cable in two to properly power the hard drive while it's connected to the Wii U. Will this work? I intend to use this drive for Loadiine so if there's anything I should know about properly setting up a drive for that, please let me know. Thanks everybody for your answers!

No for one you wont get enough power. the USB splitter is because some devices were known not to supply the full 500mah from the USB2 port so the 2 connectors combined made it work. Notice these were mainly used for the Wii and WiiU to correctly power a 2.5inch portable hard drive.

The 3.5 inch desktop drives need way more power than that. you need something like this
