I've had a google and also tried searching the wiki, but as usual there's either too much (and not clear what is up todate) or not enough information available.

For the average joe, what does the ehcmodule support mean please?

faster loading (in games as well)?
better compatibility than IOS249? (and if so, which specific games please)?

also to oggzee and usptactical - thankyou, thankyou, thankyou for listening to all our requests and specifically for implementing two of mine (password protected 'simple mode' so you could still add games etc. without having to edit the config file and also the 'hidden' flag so you can hide games from the kids - I was originally going to suggest using the controller's buttons for entering codes - it's so old school nintendo

but I thought a virtual keyboard may be easier and more generic as it could also be used for other stuff).

looking forward to the revamped install game menu / options

this loader rocks.
I think the EHCI Module is for supporting more HDs...not shure thought...

(for shure not your possibilites, sorry...)

Sorry I didn't quite get yet how to use an external ehcimodule... And where to get it from. Do I still have to install the cIOS from uLoader?If you don't know what the external ehc module is for, then you don't need it.
The loader has always included the ehc module and up till now it was from uloader 2.1.
From the release notes:
oggzee said:
- ehcmodule for rev2 is updated to uloader 2.5
- ehcmodule for rev3 is from uloader 2.8DThis means that the included (embedded) ehcmodule for cios 222 rev2 has been updated from 2.1 to 2.5, which is the last version that still works on cios 222 rev2. For cios 222 rev3, the loader now includes the ehcmodule from uloader 2.8D which is the latest version at this moment.
So, you don't have to do anything.
The external ehcmodule is just a way to override the included (embedded) ehcmodule version, with a newer or older one, in case you know it fixes some weird HDD/USB compatibility issues that you have encountered.

However, from oggzee's notes, I think invu's query is valid that the ehcmodule3.elf won't actually be needed until uLoader updates again. It seems the one from 2.8D is included in the loader itself.
Is that right, oggzee?That is correct.

The real question is what does cios 222/223 bring to you?
Usually people chose cios 222 because of HDD & USB compatibility.
But if waninkoko cios 249 works for you, then I wouldn't bother with this.

Yes, that is the most common cause why you would want to use cios 222.
And to clear some confusion, ehcmodule is the USB2 driver, that enables you to use the USB/HDD and other USB peripherials.
And, let me re-iterate again, the cfg loader already includes the ehcmodule from the latest version of uloader. You only need the external one if you want to use a different version, because you have some issues with the specific included version of the module. In other words, if uloader 2.8D is working for you, then you don't need external module, but if 2.8D doesn't work while, for example 2.7 works then you can use that module version instead.

cfg v40b3 is a big improvement. Thanks!

Can you please add a confirmation to the d-pad left/right download ALL/missing covers? I keep forgetting which direction downloads only missing covers, and my internet speed is so slow for redownloading all the full covers (I'm sharing bandwidth).

Well, cIOS222 works great for me, and actually starts my drive up quicker than Waninkoko's cIOS. Not only that, but with extra instrument support and SSBB working correctly, I think I'll stick with it for the time being. The speed of game booting is fantastic and the compatibility seems on par with what rev10 was....although rev10 never worked with my 1TB Seagate...

I think the whole ehcmodule idea is a good one. To be able to externally add support for more devices just seems like the proper way to handle it, as opposed to waiting for new cIOS versions that will hopefully support new hardware.

Well, in both cases you have to wait for a new release
wink.gif
So that part is not what the advantage is.
What is good with the ehcmodule approach is that you don't need to update the cios, which means no NAND writing and less risk for problems, since you have to only update the loader, which probably resides on SD,... unless you use the channel version, then it doesn't matter, you will be updating your NAND in both cases
wink.gif

However, cios 222 can have better support for some hardware, that's why I support the choice of different cios.
But I suggest the users should test them both and see for themselves which one works better on their hardware and games.
For me personally, both cios-es work fine so i don't have a preference.

Keep in mind that we also have the source for the ehcmodule, so even if Hermes decided to abandon the project one day, there would still be hope for us to add support for new devices down the road. That is a major plus. We can't expect Hermes or Waninkoko to continue releasing new cIOS's forever...one day that'll stop. It would really suck to be trapped in a set group of devices that are compatible...old HD's (when that time comes) that are near impossible to find.

What I am saying is that with the ehcmodule and the source for it...at least we have a chance

As for the cios differences..you are correct in that they are very minor:

cIOS222/223 will run SSBB fine, but you need a disc in the drive to run Metroid (just like rev10 did)

ciosrev14 will load Metroid without a disc in the drive, but crashes SSBB

There are more, but they are almost exactly the same. Oh, and for people who would like to perform offline installs:

When you run the cios222/223 installer, it'll download files off the net to perform the install. These files are saved on the root of your SD card in a folder called "00000001". Just hang on to that folder and if you ever need to reinstall (or reinstall on another Wii) the installer will pull from that folder without having to access the net.

Also, I pulled the cIOS installer out of the latest uloader 2.8D archive, zipped it up and uploaded it here:

http://sharebee.com/c25a513a

I noticed the link on the first page is for the previous version, so here is the installer for cIOS222/223 version 3. It contains no illegal files, just the boot.dol to get it installed (needs internet access of course). And for people unaware, you can also use this to install cIOS202, which is used for homebrew (I noticed DVD movie playback is great in mplayer using this)

Actually, I just discovered you can use NUS Downloader to get these files as well and just copying them to the SD. I'll update my tutorial with the method soon.

i just transfered lets tap over with wbfs manager but the loader doesnt see it? what happened i have done this a ton a times before.

p.s i am using a custom cios rev14 and istill have to unplug and replug my hardrive in to see it any help?

I think DOP-IOS will get them for you as well, but I could be wrong.

Hermes' IOSes might make it so that you don't have to unplug your drive. Give them a go. Don't forget to add "ios=222-mload" to your config.txt.

As for the game not showing up, have you tried using the admin unlock? I doubt that's the issue, but it's worth a try. Hold 1 for 5-10 seconds until you see the prompt then push B-Up-Down-A-Home-1-2.

Having trouble getting the unlock feature to work. Everytime I try and enter my code, I keep getting the word Locked! showing up. I have changed my password a few times and still not getting it unlocked. Am I missing something? Here is my config. Running 40C or B3

device = usb

cover_style = disc

music = sd:/music
simple = 1
confirm_start = 1
admin_lock = 1
unlock_password = ABUD21H

Thanks again for this feature. Can't wait to get it up and running

There is no 40C

Maybe it's timing out on you.
Try setting a shorter password, like just AB12 so that you can enter it fast enough.
The timeout will be extended to 30 seconds in release.

the newest 40b
As Dr.clipper suggested maybe the new admin lock / hide game feature is the problem, so try unlocking as described and check if the game is there. Or maybe you have just ran out of space on disk?
Can you try also some other things:
- verify with the wbfs manager that the game is really there
- try release 39c and see if that makes a difference

cIOS 222/223 doesn't work for load games.
I tried Monster Hunter 3 and other games with that cIOS installed, with 222/3-mload and the screen freezes after 5 dots.

Please give more details...
- What do you mean with "load games"? Starting the games or something else?
- which cios 222/223 version do you have installed, rev2 or rev3
- have you tried both variant 222 and 223?
- does it work with uloader 2.8d?
- any other details?
- oh and of course, which loader version are you using? I assume 40b3?

Really hope that cfg loader is the first usb loader to implement the latest GeckoOS essentials.

Just curious, would this be easy enough to achieve within a few days ?
