Okay. I don't know if this is the place for ask for help on this. But I was wondering if there was any way that I could edit the game textures or whatever. Like editing the background or editing textures on clothes or hair or whatever.

I didn't touch the background or texture files when I worked on this game. But it's possible to change them. The files are packed in different archives though. If you know programming, you can try to write a program to unpack and edit them. I know the backgrounds are in standard NDS formats. (NCGR/NCSR/NCLR, etc.) But I don't know about the textures. (I've never edited any 3D textures in games though.) If they are in standard formats, Tinke might be the tool you can use to edit the files.

You can ask pleonex, Tinke's developer, if he has time to write a file unpacker for you. (I've been referring people who asked me about hacking to him lately. I'm afraid he might be very busy. ^_^") Most of the files you need to edit are in /arc folder if I remember correctly. The .bin and .arc files have sub-file offsets in the headers and they are LZ10 compressed.

Well, none of this is really new information to me. I already have a basic idea what I'm doing. I was just wondering if anybody knew specifically what files to edit and which programs to use. But thanks anyway.

You have no idea how much I love you and your team (cant remember if this was a solo project or team/group) Been crying over the fact that I could never play this game because it required too much J-reading. T_T but I only recently discovered this section of GBATemp (mostly because I just recently, a week ago, picked up a 3DS) and this was the first thread I saw and I was rolling around in joy to know that this project was completed! ^_^ Thanks alot for all the awesome work.

Like so many others', I can't thank you enough.

I am learning Japanese, I wish I could indeed help but my skill is far from what is required. I have always wanted to play Love Plus and never thought I would be able to at my current level of Japanese, thank you thank you domo arigato!

For the record, I am running an Australian 3ds, latest firmware, latest r4i gold 3ds with the latest moonshell and wood. I have had probably 2 bugs, one was the speech issue, the other the "how to: text for the love + mode (speech) was off centre and out of the screen, the touchable continue button selection area was in place, so not a problem. Hasn't happened since.

Arigato!

If you could elaborate on what kind of problem you got for the "speech issue", that'd be much appreciated. (Like, because you had to say Japanese words or is it other technical issues. If it's the first case, that's not fixable, though. But if it's some other issues, I might be able to look into it.)

Also, which part of the Love Plus mode tutorial that got text off screen. The off-center part is due to the font and it can't be fixed. (It can but it needs high level ASM hacking which I can't do.) But there shouldn't be any off-screen text.

Just wonder if it's a specific problem in 3DS or I really missed something. Currently almost 100% of the errors people reported are things I can never reproduce on my DS Lite and R4 flash cart. And I got all kinds of harsh comments like 'your patch sucks' and stuff, when I had never encountered any problem they got T_T"

Thanks for releasing this patch, I'm able to understand what Manaka says, and probably never try it if you wouldn't translated it. LP is good, nice music, 3d graphic, speech recognizing, but somehow i'm disappointed, not because your patch, but game itself. (for example in compare to phoenix wright - protagonist is much worse, and I didn't feel like I could feel in love, when she was trying confessing to me, and how boring is doing simply the same routines) For me game ends after first end.

Thanks for this translation! I really enjoyed it (Until it abruptly ended :|). I hope someone will figure out how to bypass all the difficulties of LovePlus+ and translates it :D

By the speech issue, I mean the problem where the speech does not appear, but the character continues to speak.

I also had an issue with the game crashing at a certain point during dates, I found it was a bug with Moonshell. I copied the save file, but it didn't rename it, when the game tried to save during a conversation, it crashed. A cursory check with chkdsk found the issue.

As for the box moving out of the screen, it happens only about 10% of the time, I don't know why it does it some times and not others, it doesn't bother me. The game still works fine :D

Thank you so much for all of your hard work.

Thank you for the feedback. I noticed from your username that you're the same person who submitted the Error Report a while back. I'll quote your report here in case it helps others solve their problem.

P.S. I never had the problem you mentioned with my flashcart. (I didn't play it with emulator since it runs too slow.) 10% of the time is quite a lot. Luckily it doesn't cause any crashes.

------------------

Another solution for people who still have problem with the dates

"This is regarding the crashing, I had it as well, on green and pink Rinko. I ran chkdsk on the memory card and found that there were hidden duplicates of the save file, which caused a crash every time I was on a date. I duplicated the rom, placed it in a folder with a single savegame, and it worked fine. No more crashes.

Hey jjjewel, I know Love Plus+ has about a .1% chance of getting translated, and you already mentioned many problems with it, but what are the chances of you even attempting to try it again?
I only ask because the last time you said a word about it was months ago, and things could of changed (such as the tools to hack the roms) which might make things possible that were difficult in the past.

Other than that, I still can't thank you enough for translating Love Plus, it's truly an awesome game :)
*Now if only devs would make a game like this in America...*

Don't want to break anyone's heart, but if I don't update anything, my answer is still, "No." Especially while the forum is under Pokemon invasion. :P (Nothing's wrong with Pokemon, I just don't have any interest in this type of game and then there isn't anything else on this board that interests me. T_T)

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
