$24.99 oh well if I threw $500 for the system then throwing $25 for a much needed protective case won't be too bad. Like the fact that it's frame is aluminum.

If you're gonna throw 300-400 $ on a system & games, I say that a 25$ protector case is reasonable.

They made a red version of their Wiimote cover, so I'd hope odds are good for a red version of the 3DS cover.
