Chrome OS Flex

So google have released Chrome OS Flex which allows you to run ChromeOS on a deivce which is not a Chromebook.

Google brought the CloudReady team a while back to make this possible.

Seems like a good idea, but I'd rather just use Linux on low end hardware.

ChromiumOS is an opensource version which can be installed on most hardware.

I installed Cloudready's ChromeOS on my parent's old computer but I had to switch it back to windows because it had wonky printer support which was a huge dealbreaker for them. I'm sure they fixed this with newer releases.

I really hope we can eventually get proper or better Raspberry Pi support or at least a distro that isn’t made in China

This is cool, although it's too bad that it doesn't have Android support.

For a more complete Chrome OS experience, I suggest checking out https://github.com/sebanc/brunch. It uses an Official Chrome OS image and has Android and Linux support.

I came into an old MacBook Pro from 2014 last year that I'm going to give this a go on as I use it for precious little anyways. It's been years since I've tried CloudReady and honestly for just web browsing and VDI access, Chrome OS could be plenty fine for quick usage.

I thought for a moment you were trying to flex on us by having ChromeOS on a machine.

Anyway never saw the value in ChromeOS/what it does better than alternatives in the lightweight arena, and having a job require that is probably second only to Lotus Notes for *cue 15 minutes later standing in front of a burning building* so I have yet to be subject to that one. If you need it though then something to investigate.
