So I decided to redownload pokemon sun the other day and was trying to restore my save file from the previous time i had downloaded it in order to trade people some pokemon i had made in pkhex. However, when I try to restore the save I find that the game is under "external data" while it previously hadn't. Keep in mind this is a download directly from the eshop and a legitimate download. Then I see if deleting and redownloading the game will fix this. This gave me the same results. Next I moved the pokemon sun folder from "external data" to "saves." After this my game still appeared under "external data" but no save file was attached to it. Then I deleted my game again but before redownloading I deleted any mention of pokemon sun under "save" thinking that checkpoint thought I already had pokemon sun and therefore must have gotten the current download from another source.

So this leads me to where I am now. My game still appears under "external data" but now doesn't show any save file (i even double checked to make sure I had saved the game at the earliest possible time) and when I look at it in file explorer pokemon sun doesn't appear anywhere. I thought about trying to recreate the folder for pokemon sun but I can't remember the shortened form of the title id (i.e. 0x01468 or something of that nature). Any help would be really appreciated as I have people waiting on me for trades

Note: attached are the folders for both "external data" and "saves." Not sure how it would help exactly but you never know

It's difficult to follow exactly what you did, but it sounds like you might have only backed up the extdata, not the save data. That would mean the save data for those games is lost, unless you have them backed up somewhere else.

if you have them backed up somewhere else, do the following:
  1. Backup and delete the save data for Checkpoint from your SD card.
  2. Launch Pokemon
  3. Save the game (start a new game first if need be)
  4. Open Checkpoint
  5. Backup the Pokemon save data (not extdata)
  6. Open your SD card on your computer
  7. Replace the Checkpoint save data on the SD card with the one on your computer
  8. In Checkpoint, restore the save file (not extdata)

Last edited by Lacius,
so i guess the main thing is i have no place to put the save file. The folder for pokemon sun doesn't appear on file explorer when I search for it in checkpoint. Do you know if creating an identical folder under checkpoint/saves would work?

Did you follow my instructions?

Sorry, i think my issue im confusing myself with the instructions. When you say to "backup and delete the save data for checkpoint" do u mean checkpoint itself or the game data? sorry if this is a dumb question

  1. On your SD card, backup all of your Checkpoint save backups, and then delete them all. You don't actually have to do this step, but I'm trying to eliminate variables.
  2. Launch Pokemon
  3. Save the game (start a new game first if need be)
  4. Open Checkpoint
  5. Backup the Pokemon save data (not extdata)
  6. Open your SD card on your computer
  7. Replace the Checkpoint save data on the SD card with the one on your computer
  8. In Checkpoint, restore the save file (not extdata)

so i started a new game and saved it. I went to checkpoint and nothing appears under saves, the only time the game appears is under external data which shows nothing i could backup even if i wanted to
