Her save file was working on the new Luma setup, but when I installed the new CIA, that's when it was no longer detecting it. I feel like the save file should still be on the sysNAND.

Nope - I installed the same region.
I thought I remembered seeing that Animal Crossing is picky with saves, and won't read other save files without using some sort of save file manager, unlike other games. So, maybe I can simply use a save manager to get her save to work with the new CIA?
I don't think it would work since if you use the save manager to decrypt in the first place it will look at the currently installed version save not what you had previously.
Hm, well there's no save file for this new CIA, yet. She's still only made one save on this console, for the original CIA we got from Freeshop.
As for when the nand was moved, all the data on the emunand should had appear on sysnand, you should never had this save problem in the first place, don't know what other thing to suggest.
It was, though. The save was still working after I moved everything. The save file didn't disappear until I installed the new Animal Crossing .cia file. I figured it was because Animal Crossing makes it so that the save files only work with one copy of the game, because I've seen people on other threads not being able to move saves with Animal Crossing unless they have a Save Manager. I guess I'll try that first, though.
Well, I restored the NAND backup. Oddly enough - the save file still isn't being read. Weird.
After I upgraded to Luma, I reorganized the files, and after restoring the update, they're back to the way they originally were, so I know it's currently using the same NAND it was using when the save was working.
What gives?
Well if you can play it without the update, then leave it without the update, I don't know since I don't play animal crossing since you are on CFW , you shouldn't really be playing online anyway.
Well, I have the update working, but her save file is gone. That's the biggest problem.
As for online play, she just wants to visit her sister's house, and getting banned wouldn't be the end of the world.
I hate to tell you to redo another nand restore and then do a JKSM backup and then update and see if restoring the save work.
The NAND restore isn't bringing the save back, so I can't access it anymore - not on the 3DS, anyway. I have a full backup of the SD card on my PC, so I'm sure I have the save file somewhere. I'm trying to find a post somewhere related to Animal Crossing specifically, because it seems to handle save files differently than other games.
For instance, I was able to move my save file for Smash Bros. on my physical cartridge over to the CIA version rather easily. From what I've read, it's not that easy with Animal Crossing. Shame.
