There are plenty of guides in downgrading in the tutorial section. Also, SysNAND is the actual system running on the 3DS. EmuNAND is a direct image copy of that installed to the SD card and ran from there.

XD this is better (i hope)
It's not "better" it's what you do after to install CFW. First you follow the guide to downgrade and then you install a CFW.

If you need someone to hold your hand this much you probably aren't ready to downgrade. Read up some more and do your own research.

If you downgrade, you'll be able to emulate a custom firmware (CFW) off your SD card (EmuNAND) and you'll be able to keep up-to-date with Nintendo while having a permanent solution to homebrew (and piracy, if you're into that)

Please try using the search function before asking the more basic questions, because it clutters the forum for the users asking the more complex questions.

That's not an entirely accurate description.
To be more precise it'd be "emulating" your entire system's sysNAND (internal memory) off of a cloned copy (we call this emuNAND) on your SD card.
You boot into this emunand with signatures disabled by launching a homebrew CFW from your main system's sysNAND, such as from Smea's homebrew launcher or CTRbootmanager.

oh so its almost this 3ds emulator that runs on your 3ds...wait what?

Basically, you create an exact replica of your internal system flash memory (sysNAND) onto your SD card in an isolated "partition" of the SD memory.

jaksy probably won't like my definition of NAND, but you could think of EmuNAND like "booting up your computer with Windows installed from a USB stick", except for your 3DS.

By doing this, you can play around with your operating system without worrying about bricking, because you can read+write to/from your SD card easily.

Oh ok, so it's not hardware just software?
Emunand replicates the nand area that would be your 3ds's internal memory.
As I've stated it clones a copy of it where you can boot into with signatures disabled to run installed cia games.

That's a pretty simple analogy, but it works.

they need to have a strong line up on the launch titles too. I think they should move metroid prime 4 to the next console because by now it has been quite a while and there's no release date scheduled yet

well as far as metroid prime 4 is concerned, the next system probably is similar enough to the current gen they can probably easily just slap it onto a next gen cart and call it good :P
