Can i use my Wiimote on gamecube games via nintendont?

I own a Nintendo Wii U and Wii, and i got a present which is Sonic Gems Collection for Gamecube. The problem is, i don't own a Gamecube but i do have a wii. Which leads to another problem, i don't have a gamecube controller or memory card. I have Nintendont installed on my Wii, and can i boot from dvd via using it? Like booting from DVD, and using wiimote on it? Because afaik wiimotes doesnt work on gamecube mode.
