Hacking Can I upgrade from 4.2 to 9.2 in late 2017?

I followed through on the 3ds.guide, updated to 11.6, installed freeshop and bootntr and am now living happily ever after without my gateway card.

Hi!

I have not booted my 3ds for many many years now. But suddenly found interest again.
I own the gateway cards, but the new 3.4.1 fw does not seem to work for me, since I do not see any games after booting in gw mode. I have formatted for emunand through the menu.

My 3ds is in 4.2E, both sysnand and emunand.

Since my gw dont show any games, I followed 3ds.guide and installed b9s and luma3ds and got three new programs that all black squares, one seems to lead to system transfere, one leads to a system upgrade that does nothing on the emunand (the only one I have dared to try on) and the third gets stuck in the loading screen.

So Im kind of stuck. Is there some way I can update my 3ds sysnand to 9.2? The guides from 2014-2015 want me to use rxtools and some other bootloader that I have not managed to get on the system since I now have luma3ds I suppose?

Why do you want to update your sysNAND ? You already have B9S and Luma, you can update EmuNAND, never use SysNAND again, and even stop using your Gateway cards with it

What's the latest emuNAND you got? 11.2?
Also, luma can play CIA games just fine

If you have CFW you can downgrade from whatever version you have to whatever version you want.

Also, yes. Luma CFW can only play .CIA games, it cannot play .3DS games. .3DS files can however be converted to .CIA files.

thats without cfw . . . with cfw you have full control over things like firmware

honestly imo you should ditch the gateway (sell it you can still make some of your cash back and use that for a bigger sd card) & .3ds is not more convenient. freeshop now thats convenient with freeshop you can pirate without a pc [Release] Paul's freeShop fork - open source eShop alternative ...
and you will not miss gateshark because [Release]BootNTR Selector does the same and more

I just updated my emunand to 11.6. I guess Ill try it out for a while and see what I think :-)

I still dont understand what bootntr is though? What is NTR?

It's a way of running cheats on games. You run it as a CIA, then you are in NTR mode. Afterwards, you can run NTR plugins that do all kinds of things to your games.

i meant you should update sysnand not emunand (you can have a 11.6 sysnand for luma use and a 11.2 emunand for gateway via that guide i linked for you) if you choose to roll it back (for gateway support) you will need to do a ctrtransfer or revert to your nand backup on emunand first

This turned out great! So just wanted to thank you guys once again
I filled a 32gb card with nice games, leaving ~1gb for savegames and stuff.
A bit sad though that the installations take some time, but I filled a folder and set it to install all during the night. No biggie.
It has really blown new life into my old 3DS. Guess Mario on my switch will have to wait until Im done with all these games :-)
