Hacking Can I update my games and DL from e-shop in GW mode?

Sooo scary thing... I was trying to get Codename Steam to work and for some reason it didn't until I updated my 3DS in GW mode but I left the cartridge out.... I was sure I was screwed. But anyways it says the game needs an update, can I do that? Also can I DL a game from the e-shop cuz it's taking too long for AoT ROM to become available.
